NWN Online
My comrades and I have just started playing NWN as a multiplayer game. Wow. While I liked the single player-4 times completed - the multiplayer version is how I believe the game was intended to be played. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a whirl. It really is the closest thing to the PnP that has ever been. If your party is all local, conference calling heightens the experience.
If you have played it as a multiplayer, where do you play? We have tried various mods, with very mixed results. We have tried servers via Gamespy (I hope that I am not breaking any forum rules here, but can't seem to find the guide). Again with mixed results. Are there any stable servers out there with good games on them, free of the PK and PP killjoys, with players who actually role play?
Thanks,
R.Carter

I play on Argyle, a persistant world that uses the Hardcore Rules and is heavily roleplaying slanted. It severly discourages powergaming and metagaming, too.
As I hated the single player campaign, and as I don't like the engine that much, Argyle is the only reason NWN is still on my computer. I've had a lot of fun there.
Argyle is still in its test server phase, and it has its own world (so its not Forgotten Realms). We can always use new members, too.
Check out the Blades of the Banshee forum here on Gamebanshee (most of us play there). The site is http://www.lonerhino.com/argyle/ and the forums are http://www.lonerhino.com/cgi-bin/ikonbo ... nboard.cgi. You must become a member at the forums to access the server password and to download the hak pack needed to play.

I don't know if it's advertising, but if it is so i'm sorry...
you can play at Lands Of Lore (LOL) at: http://www.landsoflore.org
I used to play there, it's great!!!!!!!!!!!!
and a little hint: it's better to be an Elf or a Half-elf in LOL, but you don't have to be an Elf/Half-Elf...

-i really did not like the nwn adventure. i started it a couple of times and never finished it (once due to a luskan bug). but for me the game is finally paying off. the modules that are out there kick butt!!!!!! my hats off to all the creators. i don't even play multiplayer (crappy internet connection) and i am thoroughly enjoying the games. just completed pharaoh-great game. i downloaded approx. 20-30 mods (at work of course) and took them home they install easily and are relatively bug free.

Just can't seem to find a good game online... Argyle seems OK, but it's almost impossible to survive the rats and spiders in the first area and I've never seen more than 3 people online so you can't even "party up" for survival. Went to one default game, everyone was rapid clicking so you couldn't even see or read what was happening...no fun there either.
Any other suggestions?

Well - I*d advice sticking to Argyle and getting the hang of it.
I've lost several (read: incredible many) characters, before I started getting the hang of combat.
Combat is dangerous, but it can be done, even solo.
Roleplaying is safer, but takes longer time.
I've just played one of my characters to level 3, mostly (95%) after solo combat. Of course he is a little combat orientated, but still a balanced character with 12 as the minimum score in any stat. (yes that means 12 in int, wis and cha. )
I've also recently got my second character to level 2 after pure roleplaying (took about 2 weeks ). This guy had killed nothing for exp.
It takes time to get the hang of Argyle. It is a harsh world and you have to think in a larger timeframe, then one might be used to from Single Player modules.

-I read in ruminations that you are playing CST. I am EST and play at night on weeknights from 9pm-1am or so. There are usually 8-12 players on at this time - that would be 8pm-12am for you - so try these times out.
Also - to echo Xandax - it takes some time to get the hang of combat in on AO. It is very different from the single player game. As a first level character two or more of any monster can be too much. You need to learn when to run, when to fight, and what you can and cannot handle. This applies to solo and party play.
I currently play two main characters - one level 4 and one level 3. They both have been on the sever since February. I would say that 80% of their xp is from combat. So it can be done - just don't expect that you won't go through some growing pains. I have had over 100 characters die since September of last year - but I am not too bright - so you might have better luck and a faster learning curve.

Well - if you think that is bad. I've been playing on and off since the server went "live" and only once (before now) had a character over level 3. And he died fast after getting to level 3 because of my stupidity.
(memo to self: when a crit. roll on a goblin for 15 damage only brings it to Barely injured .... it is time to run)
Don't sweat it - you will loose magnitudes of characters, but if you stick with it and get into the roleplaying feel of the server it will blow your socks off.
You will see plotting to bring down others, tension between races and classes and characters for various reasons, outright evil characters that will slay you if they ever get a single chance and much more. There is even a prison, trials if need be etc.
The server holds so much possiblity .......
........... if you can stand the heat.

100? Geez...I don't feel so bad any more. I was freaking after #5 bit the dust in two days.
Heh.. I'm at around 200 dead currently. So don't worry about it.
The trick to surviving in Argyle is to not get c0cky(jeez, I can't say c0cky? ) or greedy. If you can do that, your survival rate will increase about 80%.
Argyle seems OK, but it's almost impossible to survive the rats and spiders in the first area ...
I wouldn't worry about killing the rats and spiders. Go find a pal, preferrably a cleric if you're a tank or a tank if you're a rogue, mage, etc., and go kill a couple goblins. If you're first level, take it easy. Maybe leave after you clear the first room. In fact, retreat whenever you're at half HP no matter what level you are or where you are.
Oxymoron of the day: Microsoft Works
With the amount of time and effort put into Argyle to make it as close to the Core Rules as possible, it is indeed a difficult place to survive, if you maintain the powergamer's belief. Many people have found a spot in Argyle more of a life type thing, fighting only when need be.
For instance, I have gone through my share of characters, a couple rangers, a witch hunter, etc. But have found the most entertaining one to play, as been my blind 'Sword Dancer' Eltharion. He has proven time and again he can fight, but he makes it know he prefers not to. To me, that is part of the charm of Argyle. He's reached level 4, with minimal combat, but at the same time, it's not because he can't fight.
It's nuances like this that make Argyle the server that it is. If only we could get some more areas in there, then it will truly live up to the server that it wants to be.

Blind fighting?
Getting the -4 penalty (or what it is) for being blind, are we?
Well, the jist of Aegis statement is true.
It is often the "wierd and complex" characters that are giving most fun in matters of playing.
Powergaming is little fun in a world where most people roleplay and react to mindless killing by raising questions about the behavoir.
