Sword of deception

Post by MegaToerist »

I just want to hear your opinions on this one:

Sword of Deception, Long Sword +2

The blade of this sword can only be seen very vaguely, blending with its surroudings, seeming nothing more than a vague mist. It was created by the followers of an ancient god of torture, and completely reflects the nature of the long-forgotten deity.
In combat, the nearly-invisible blade becomes quite deadly. Although seemingly no damage is taken from being hit, the blade has pierced through armor and clothing, leaving behind a part of the freezing, swirling mists. After a few seconds, this mist starts with its destructive work: first, after numbing the bodypart that was hit, it becomes searingly hot, burning away the numbed flesh. After this has happened, the mists turn into acidid vapors, further eating away the victim. When this has happened, the mists suddenly form into razor-shrap edges, even more devastating than most other blades could be; this is were the mists are at their strongest point. After this point, they change back into acid, buring hot vapor and numbing cold fog, to then completely disappear.

THAC0: +3
Damage: none (not even strength bonus)
Special: after being hit, the victim suffers damage at the following rate:
0 seconds: 1 point of cold damage
3 seconds: 2 points of fire damage
6 seconds: 3 points of acid damage
9 seconds: 4 points of piercing damage
12 seconds: 3 points of acid damage
15 seconds: 2 points of fire damage
18 seconds: 1 point of cold damage
Not Usable By:
Druids
Clerics
Wizards
Good-aligned characters (?)

If I get some positive feedback, I'll give the sword a shot. The hardest part seems to be to negate the strength-based damage bonus, while keeping the "to hit" part. (Need to check with IEEP)
Perhaps I need to increase the time between various damage-dealing effects a bit?

TC, Geert

Maybe you should add a little bit more variation to the damage dealt by the weapon - otherwise a hit would constantly deal 16 points of damage (if no resistances).

What did you have in mind? Something like 1 cold damage, 1d2 fire damage, 1d3 acid damage, 1d4 piercing damage?
