Scar's Sewer Quest

Post by Ravor »

Well, I've recieved Scar's second quest and killed the ogre mage, however, after returning with all the loot minus the mage's sword Scar simply says that he'll get another group to look into it. (Prehaps I 'broke' the quest when I talked to Scar a second time before killing the Ogre Mage.)

Is there another trigger that I have to complete or should I simply chalk this quest up as being hopelessly broken?

Thanks,

No, talking to Scar a second time didn't break the quest. If you accepted the mission and talked to Scar a second time without completing it he just tells you to continue your search. What apparently happened is that you took to long to do the mission. I checked out the dialog tree and globals and it turns out that this particular mission is on a timer. The dialog you got means that the timer expired. Trying to reset the globals and timers on this mission may be more trouble than its worth. Keep in mind next time you play that this is one of the timed quests.

Sorry, that I don't know. I can find the controlling script but can't access the imbedded file that probably governs it. It could be as short as 3 days or up to 10 days. How much traveling and sleeping do you recall doing from the time you got the quest until the time you found the quest was broken?

BTW, if you're seriously hooked on BG1 & 2 there are some utilities you might want to consider downloading. GateKeeper, ShadowKeeper, Infinity Explorer, and Infinity Engine Editor Pro are all good tools to have for fixing busted quests, exploring dialog trees, modifying weapons and equipment, changing character attributes, etc. Check out the sticky threads in the BG1 & 2 forums for links to download these great utilities.

Well, I talked to Scar during the day and then rested until night (Since his quest mentioned people disappearing at night.) before going down into the sewers to clear them out and then rested until daytime again before talking to him. Since I never rested in the sewers themselves I can't imagine being down there very long. (I believe there are only three sewer screens.)

Aye thanks, I use Gatekeeper, but I'll have to download and look into the other programs you mentioned.

I have had some problems with Scar's quests in the past also. My problem was with the Seven Suns quest. I cleared out the Seven Suns and saved Jhasso and everything, but I never recieved the dialogue option to tell Scar everything, all I could say was that it was infiltrated by some sort of monster. Then, Scar would ask me to go back and clear it out and save Jhasso (even though I had already done so). No matter what I did I couldn't tell him that I had completed the quest. Very VERY annoying. I ended up telling him to send someone else. If there is a fix for this (or a reason maybe?) I would really like to know it. I don't know if Ravor's problem is similar, but it sounds like it to me, since he didn't take all that long to complete the quest (I know for a fact I have taken longer with no problems).

Well, after redoing the entire Chapter Five (twice), I managed to complete all of Scar's quests by simply doing them all before I spole to him at Flaming Fist Headquarters.
