When you're done with keys, can you leave them somewhere? Do I need to keep them with me all of the time?
I'm pretty far in the quest and I have collected a fair amount, and I wish I could get rid of them.
Thanks

Once you're done with keys you can pretty much ditch them. Other than slave bracelet keys, you can pick any locks you find anyway. Some keys repeat themselves in the game (i.e. old rusty key, small key, daedric ruin key, etc.) but you should be able to find another one in the new quest area. I just stash all of them in a crate somewhere I can remember just in case. I suppose if you had a fairly complete set of generic keys that some locked objects would open automatically, but its hardly worth the effort or inventory space to lug them around.

Hard to say but I think each key is useable on one door one specific set of doors only - certainly the ones the have names. There are others that seem generic (slave key, simple key, rusted key, etc.), but even though I carry a number of them with me, they don't seem to open anything beyond their original purpose. I put them all into a crate at my abode.
