Originally posted by Gwalchmai Rumpole was excellent. I really like Cadfael. An unusual period to set the stories. Some how reminded me of I Claudius. I agree about the super detective problem. The humorous ones are always my favorites. I’m not too interested in the darker ones like Second Sight.
My wife's a big Cadfael fan--I started her on it, buying a couple of the books for her one Solstice. It also keeps her off reading those trashy ?#)*&! romance novels by Johanna Lindsey and the like.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

You should have seen them both!! They were drooling after the first glimpse of wort!! After that I was running to keep up with them as they aimed for the bar at the end of the tour

LMAO! well I was actually keen to see all there was to see, we hit the bar at midday and didn't stop for 12 hours and then it was only because we had to be up way too early to catch the flight that we did!
@Waverly LMAO! he was a good advert for them
@T' don't you think I noticed?? Fair play though, you were very patient with me

Nice pictures, T'! Stonehenge looks great, but a little touristy. I assume this was taken before Yshania performed a human sacrifice? I'm sure the mood changed considerably for the better afterwards.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Yeah, just as we reached the "sacrificial stone" it poured down
They had to fence off the stones years ago, it is sad, but people took to chipping off souveniers
What is so amazing to me, apart from standing in the company of something so aged and mysterious that is (no references to Fable now ) is how small it all is...the published photos are deceiving...I always considered the site would be huge. The stones are very large, don't misunderstand me, but in the midst of the Salisbury Plains it covers a small area.

When I become King, I'll build you a bigger Stonehenge, Dear Ysh.
I can imagine. The photographs are often taken without people for scale, and tales of giants having a hand in the construction doesn't help. Still, I would like to visit there, someday. Just to have a Salisbury Steak, you understand.

Why thank you Gwally, we may have to wait some time before anyone else appreciates their value though
It is worth the visit though, since the history of the site goes further back than the stones themselves, which are already older than the pyramids. You can see the valley where they dragged some of the stones in, and some of the stones were brought from 385km away in Wales. It is thought they were transported by water to the south coast, but that still left a hell of a treck inland.

You looked so despondent seated on one of the benches...
I liked the one you posted, the clouds were nice and not threatening rain at all at that point

Mind you, I think all of the photos are nice! They show that you had a great time! I'm just looking forward to pictures of you and Ysh perfoming those naked pagan rituals that I imagine stonehenge would have inspired in you....
Ysh: It truely is a significant site from a little-understood period. I would very much like to see it myself!

Trust you *sigh* you are really unknowledgeable of the weather conditions over here aren't you? We were naked, under the macs
I am quite sure you would, we thought of you whilst we were out there
@T' if I had not pointed out the scratch and sniff I might have had time to read more!!

Excuse me, I didn't mean pagan in the 'religious' sense; I meant pagan in the 'two-beautiful-naked-women-frolicking-in-an-archaeological-site' sense. I thought I was being clear.
