What's better being evil or good?
I was just wondering what is better good or evil. This includes better party and different reputations. So, please tell me.

well if your good you get those price bonuses and the satisfaction that you've done your good deed for the day, but if your evil you get to feel no guilt about whacking those characters that p^ss you off (i.e. neeber)
it depends what you want
also you get increased prices if you have a bad rep sooo...

The story is that you are supposed to be good-aligned. If you talk rudely to Imoen at the begining, she says that the mage has been messing with your head and that you have changed. You also start with Imoen(NG), Minsc(CG), and Jaheira(TN).
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

It's much more difficult to play evil, there are a lot of a drawbacks to it. It can however be more fun I suppose. My suggestion is just to go with Good it makes things simpler.
When logic and proportion,
Have fallen sloppy dead,
And the White Knight is talking backwards,
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the doormouse said.

It's nearly impossible to play "evil," since the incentives to be moderately good (especially lower prices at merchants, based on reputation) are too powerful, and you need a moderately decent reputation to invoke a certain powerful change in a character, later.
If you're party's made up of neutral/good characters, you can let your reputation soar as high as you want. However, you miss out on the best fighter (Korgan), mage (Edwin) and cleric (Viconia).
If you go with evil/neutral party members, you can't let your reputation hit 18, or the evil types will desert you. This means stealing from isolated citizens to lower your rep artificially, which I find a bit silly.
Word of advice: don't mix good and evil characters. Eventually, you'll find yourself in the middle of some intense fights.

I always play evil, with all that comes with it, why would i care about silver dragons eggs and so on.
I have a reputation of 7, making my evil crew happy and neutrals neutral.
Prices are high, but i get to kill Drizzt at one point, getting about 100000 golds from that fight only.
It all comes down to your personal playing style however. If you play good just to get cheaper stuff that is poor roleplaying.
I tried playing as good once, but it wasnt fun at all.

You aren't obliged to buy anything, however.Originally posted by sigurd:

IMHO, since it is role playing, so you should play as you feel - or as you wish to feel - yourself, that's all what matters. After all, nobody is looking over your shoulder, it's you who enjoys the game.

Some shops are impossible to steal from, but you can get money by stealing from shops that have the option, and then selling the stuff back.
I also recommend you to play in the way that you feel like and think is funny. The game is clearly easier to play with a good party, but some side quests are suited especially for evil parties. Good luck and enjoy!

Good Alignment give you cheaper prices, more flexibility with characters, and generally out of trouble.
Evil alignment can cost you money on goods. The real danger for evil is that if you become very evil too soon, you can seriously shorten your life span. Low reps summon guards and wizards, which will eventually kill you. Neutrel characters break at the low reps, but can tollerate high reps. However, evil characters have the best Pure class characters -- Cleric, Fighter and Specialist Mage. Evil, however, just lets you do mean things. Some people think that is cool. Being evil in the begging can be difficult, but you can get your evil cleric and fighter very early.

Being Evil is much more fun than polaying good, you also can get an unstoppable party like mine (swashbuckler/mage , korgan , viconia and edwin(a) ) and who really cares about the cost of some items??? all the cool weapons are usually found in dungeons and stuff anyway like the dragon plates ( oh and btw dragons are really easy with an evil party for some reason)

I like playing true neutral, it gives you lots of flexibility in terms of NPC choice and actions. And, if you get bored prior to committing yourself to either Bodhi or the Shadow Thieves, you can always switch to the opposing path/party.

But only of a good or evil alignment, not both at the same time. Or you can expect some pretty lively disagreements.Playing Neutral is cool! You can have all NPCs, do what you want...
