It says 8x cd/dvd-rom drive, why do I need a dvd-rom drive for this game? Or can it be played with out the dvd-rom drive?

Yes, it can be played on a standard CD-ROM drive. I only have a CD-ROM drive, no DVD.
The CD must be in the CD player to play the game. And it must be the original. A friend of mine tried to make a copy and it didn't work.

Got another question, can anyone tell me what windows swapfile is? I am not to computer savy when it comes to most computer stuff.
Computer programs, and games in particular, require so much storage space during use, that having that much RAM available just wasn't possible; that may have changed in recent months, but for most computers we'll work with the limitations. So Uncle Bill [Gates] came up with the idea of using part of your hard drive as a kind of temporary memory. BUT, it can't be just any random part. A specific continuous block is set aside for this purpose and nothing else can be stored there. There are 2 basic ways of setting it up: let the o/s handle it (recommended) or define it manually. Given your question, letting the o/s handle it would seem to be a good idea.
