Arkanis Gath - The impossible fight
Arkanis Gath - The impossible fight
I bet you guys have never even met this guy, but I am amazed by him. I have sided with the Shadow Thievs and have just extermintated Bhodi's lair, but I wanted those boots of speed from Renal Bloodscalp. So I march my high level party in there to jack those boots. But when the shadow thievs turn red, this mystery man apears and slaughters my party. His name is Arkanis Gath, and he must have a death weapon of some kind because he kills everything he touches with one hit. My main character is a level 14 pure fighter with a -10 Armor class, Hammer of Thunderbolts, grand mastery in war hammer, and a Thaco of -3. He can't even hit Mr. Gath. But Mr. Gath can sure hit me, on his first hit that is. And his weapon must have no saving throw for death because it is an instant kill on my entire party. I tried everything, including summoning a wizards eye for Mr. Gath to hit at for a minute while I hit him with everything in my arsenal. I can get him all the way to "near death" but then he just stays right there. I guess this is Biowares way of not "allowing" you to steal Renal's boots, but it still drives me nuts that there is a guy in the game that is absolutely un-killable. Check it out. Tell me what you find.

Yep! Also their way of not letting you kill the Shadow Thieves too.Originally posted by Bishop:

There are many threads on how to kill this guy. He appears if you attack shadow thieves for no reason, attack Mae'var before going through his quests, and numerous other times. Another NPC with instant-kill is an elf who appears if you attack Eldan.
If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do.

The only "unkillable" NPCs are the ones you see when the interface vanishes, and the cut scenes run; or the ones who are deliberately hustled out of the area before you can hit 'em. However, there are some high level NPCs who are meant to discourage just this line of thought ("I've killed one side, now that I've gotten rewards from their enemies, I'll kill 'em, too.") Too much interference with the story.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
