Experience Question

I have a experience question here:

1. If a character hits max XP, do they continue to share in the experience gained or once the cap is reached, only players who can still use the experience get it?

I want to play through again with my main (high level) character along with a new one, but eventually he'll max out, so I want the to get all the exp (there's no need to share it, I guess). Thanks.

The exp. is shared. In fact even when the cap is hit the character still receives experience. When I installed a cap remover my character immediately went up by several hundred thousand points and I was able to level up a couple of levels.
