(fantasy)fiction (archer)

Post by ARcheR_S_ »

Hey all.........lately I'm into reading some fanfiction (now that Im free after finally passing my freaking exams......)

I have been reading some stories at the fanfiction site, were there are truly great stories! However, I am mostly interrested in stories about Archers (hence my name :p )

Now I have a problem, because I havent been able to find ANY story about an Archer. Mostly the subject is a fighter, mage or a thief.

So that why I visit this forum again.......in the hope someone would know a place were I can read some stories with in the spotlights and Archer NPC.
Now the story doesnt have to be about Baldurs Gate or anything...as long as an Archer is the main character.

Edit: I prefer stories with more than 10000 words

Hoping for some (good) replies :D

Try here.

Thanks for replying Fable!

Unfortunatly, I have probably allready read 2 or 3 books about Robin Hood, and have seen 2 movies of him.

I will still check your link and see how far I will get reading it before I get bored, though :D

While it's still in the works, "The Midnight Sea" thread will be featuring plenty of twanging bow-strings as I indulge in more battle-scenes. While the protagonist of the tale is primarily a sword-swinger, he'll doubtlessly use a bow quite frequently. ;)

Ehehe........how funny :p

No, serious.......Ive been reading Baldurs Gate fanfiction.....and its all about fighters and such.

Now I prefer Archers, maybe because of lord of the Rings (tell me, you're not saying Gimli fights the coolest, right??)
Anyway........I prefer battles in which an Archer plays the main role. I really liked the LotR battles, like when they face those dumb hyena's in which legolas shoots 3 before the battle starts.....

Well those things I like to read sometime instead of allways reading about fighters using there swords and hacking and slashing there way thrue a bunch of people. Well anyway, you get my drift right :p

@ Chanak: What do you mean?? I've never heard of "The Midnight Sea" thread........

Good night yall :D ...........Although I guess it's not time to sleep in America yet....... :p

Hello Archer, and welcome to the board. :) I am no good at fantasy literature, but if you like archers you could try to look for some good historical accounts of the Battle of Crecy 1346 when the English king Edward III won an almost miraculous victory against the French much due to his archers, and also the battle of Poiters 1356 and the battle of Agincourt 1415. Shakespeare based his plays much on Hall and Holished's chronicles, which I believe can be found on the net.

@Archer, are you looking for online story suggestions or books? Salvatore's Demon series has a ranger as the main character...

Thanks for the reminder CE. :)

@ Archer, I can most definitely recommend a novel, or series of novels, by Bernard Cornwell called the Grail Quest. It is a recount of the battles of England against France from the point of view of an English Archer, Thomas of Hookton. He has noble blood, but is the bastard son of a priest and is not entitled to land because of that. The first book is Harlequin, the second Vagabond and the final is Heretic, which is in the works.

It is fantastic literature and a great story, Cornwell knows hot to spin a yarn. :)

I don't know of any online stories, but Arthur Conan Doyle's The White Company is a great book about a group of english archers. If your lucky, your library will have a copy.

Well.......since you told me, that the Grail Quest is a trilogy......it seems pretty wise to start with the first book :p

I saw the book with different frontpages and titles in the US and the UK.......but since the UK is closer to my home, I guess I should order it there. So thanks for your book suggestion.

@Zelgadis=> I checked in many many libraries.....and also at our Literature Plaza.....but the only books available of Arther Conan Doyle are The lost world, Sherlock Holmes and some other books........

So in the meantime Im truly hoping that someone would know a good online place to find stories.......

Try FanFiction.Net, or it's sister site, FictionPress.Net. Be prepared...there are literally thousands of stories, poems, and other styles of writing of every stripe and caliber to be found on both of those websites. FictionPress deals more with original concepts, while FanFiction boasts tales spun concerning the various settings of the fantasy and sci-fi genres.

Re: The Midnight Sea...that's a story thread here in the SYM forum, posted by yours truly. I'd provide you with a shortcut to it, but since I recently posted on that thread, it's here on the front page. ;)
