Demogorgon

Post by Camilla »

Does anyone have any good tactics on beating this guy?
I've looked in the strategy section, tried almost all of it, but without sucsess.
The worst part is that I actually managed to kill him once, but his minions killed me shortly after and I had no time to save.
I've tried the same tactic over again, but now he was suddenly imune to everything, I couldn't hurt him at all. And I tried lower resistance, breach, ruby ray of reversal, warding wip and all other to get his protection down, but it seems to have no effect.
And is there a way to stop him from conjuring up minions all the time? They're all over the place!

For now I've just decided to leave him alone and come back for him in a while when I'm not so sick and tired of being kicked around by a big baboon.
And what's that about anyway? I would think that if you were the prince of demons and you had two heads, you wouldn't have two baboon heads. That's just silly, but then again maybe that's the point.

Did you try the GameBanshee Strategy Guides for ideas? You can also do a forum search for old threads on this same subject.

Demogorgon is one of the tougher battles. Who's in your party and what level are your partymembers?
You seem to have at least one mage in your group, but you'll need some meleepower as well, not to mention priestspells (for buffing up).
Also, high level summons (deva, planetar) are very handy to keep Demogorgon's summons busy while concentrating on D. himself.
High level traps should work as well, or so I'm told.

Okay, here's what I do that works every time but you've got to have the right party mix. I take my thief and set 7 traps, mostly spiked traps, all around him. Then I leave to talk to the knights and send them in to die. Then I go back in and attack Demoguy. The traps kill him instantly - no extra monsters to kill or anything. This works on pretty much anything where you get the chance to set traps before initiating combat. Not much will stand up to 7 traps let alone 7 spike traps.

My party:

Main character Fighter 31 lvl
Minsc 26 lvl
Jaheira 19/14 lvl
Imoen 23/7 lvl
Arie 20/17 lvl
Keldorn 21 lvl

I think my main problem is that I've never sat a trap ever. I never used it before and everytime I try it with Imoen it always fails. Who is good for setting traps?

Unless you grow your own thief or have Jan in your party you are screwed. Immy and Nalia will never set a trap as they dualed to soon and Yoshi is dead. Next time try a fighter dualed to a thief, a very powerful character as not only does he get awesome trap setting skills (100 points in trap setting means 100% success) but also get Use Any Item as a special skill. This means you can wield any weapon in the game including bard harps, paladin swords, mage wands, etc. I dual at level 9 fighter normally and my thief quickly advances to level 10. Once I get special abilities I put them on these two skills. There are also time stop traps and exploding traps. I don't usualy mess with those but I hear good things about time stop traps. You can alway drop someone like Aerie (she seems almost redundant in your party) or Minsc and pick up Jan. Hopefully he will have some decent trap setting skills though I can't guarantee it. Its best to pick him up in SoA and grow his trapping spells. He becomes one serious gnome of doom (tank, mage, thief) by the time you get to ToB.

Actually with the right tactic anyone of your charachters could handle Demogorgon alone. Important is to counter the Hold attack. So give the Ring of Free Action to your frontman. Use Minsc's Rage ability because it protects him from beeing hold.
I for myself would only Jaheira send in alone and hide the others upstairs (near the portal). With Ring of Free Action, Iron Skin, Chaotic Commands, Resist Fear, Prot. from Fire, one Greater Elemental summoning and maybe a Deva. Then Energyblades to get rid of the Stoneskins from Demogorgon. When all Energyblades are thrown, cast another one or use the Spear of Withering with one or two Greater Whirlwinds. If you got damaged, cast another Iron Skin. That should be enough to defeat Demogorgon. Be shure to use weapons which do some elemental damage and are +3 or better.

BTW what kind of weapons do you have?

Wand of spell striking and whirlwind is the way to go for DG, of course you'll need various buffs and summons to go a long with it. Keep trying!

I suppose you could always go outside and read the scroll....

I have very many good weapons, but no personal favorite yet. I've had Cespenar forge me a lot of stuff, but I've found none of them to be breathtakingly good.
But I'm not really good at reading up on all the spescial abilities and using them to the max, I'm just not patient enough when it comes to the research.
I have the flail of Ages with all the heads, but I'm not using it. The statistics didn't really impress me. 1d6+6 doesn't sound that good when you have other weapons that do 1d12+6.

But isnt that w/o elemental. sorry if it sound stupid but havent asembled it for a long time and think delted my savegame.

If its with elemental please ignore thi post

If its w/o elemental then it 1d6+11 wich is a lot more minimum damage and only one point less max damage. plus if someone are immune or has high resistance to one kind of damage the others will gor though

Also, the elemental damage ignores Stoneskin, making it useful against mages.

Hi Camilla,

I am a newbie to Baldur's gate, but I managed to beat that guy in my second try. What I did is to summon as many creatures as possible arround the area where Demogorgon is going spawn.
once the battle starts, your mages immediately start using the spell striking wands on him, and your fighter start to whirlwind.
The trick is that let your fighters start attack one step behind the summons so that Demo wont kill your chars. One more thing in case you have done it and it took me a while to find out that makes this game much easier is to set your game option to pause of spell cast so that you will never waste time on each characters. You also want to turn your party AI off at that time so that your chars can concertrate on what your command. The best is to have 2+ fighters to whirlwind and use +5 weapons with elemental damage or +6 weapons as the other forumers suggested. If I remeber correctly, absolute immunity is not immune to +5 weapons so that spell strike wand is good enough.

That's basically a good strategy to beat DG. The improved DG fight next. That fight is killer. It gives DG the respect he deserves.

If Demogorgon is casting actuall summoning spells (I've never reached him so I don't know...) try casting "Death spell" or "death fog" - both of those automaticly kill all summons, without saves.

Those that understand binary and those that don't
