So I feel like takin another stab at makin kits
So I feel like takin another stab at makin kits
So I just decided It would be fun to mess around with some new kit ideas after a long hiatus from doing any editing whatsoever, and I've come up with two kits so far.
Thief: Pyro
Penalties: lowered thieving skills per level
Bonuses: gains the spells Burning Hands, Melf's Minute Meteors, Sunfire, and Fireshied:Red at levels yet to be determined
I chose those spells because they're all centered on the caster and just make sense to me as things a pyro would use.
Bard:Courtesan(or something else if you can think of a better name)
Penalties: -2 Strength
Wears no armour or shields
Can only use weapons of
Druid ethos
Bonuses: +2 Charisma
can have two proficiency pionts
any any weapon, and in two
and single weapon styles
Bard Song has effect of either
Confusion or Chaos, and if
that's not possible, Charm and
Dire Charm willl be gained as
Innates
Not sure where this came from but it sounds pretty cool to me.
I'll definately post more as I think of them.
And if you have any other ideas or think mine are crap lemme know, cause right now I'm just deciding on what I wanna make, and then I'll make them doable, andfinally make them.

Another one...
Fighter: Brute
Bonuses: +2 str and con
Immune to Fear
Stunning Blow(same as Monk)
Penlaties: -2 int and cha
same weapon restrictions as a Cleric
same armor restrictions as a Bard
Human, Half-Orc, and possibly Dwarf only(you decide)
That one sounds kinda cool, and fun to play too. Comments?
And I was thinking of making a Paladin kit called Pompous A$$(for lack of a better name), or even a Templar. Any ideas on what to do with with either or these dogooder kits.

Cleric Kit: Priest of Bhaal
Pros:
- May equip daggers
- May cast 'Poison', 'Contagion', and 'Summon Skeleton warrior' once per day per 4 levels
- At 13th Level, may conjure a 'Spectral Dagger of Murder' (+4, +1 cold damage, +1 acid damage, 10% chance to inflict 2 poison damage for 10 seconds, 2% chance of instantaneous death if failing a saving throw vs. death at -2) once per day; lasts 10 rounds
Cons:
- May not Turn Undead
- Requires Evil Alignment
About the best I can come up with so far.

Sounds interesting.... and I don't think it'd be that difficult. Thanks. And Any fedback on the one's I've been able to come up with?
By casting Poison, do you mean the same effect as assasins poison weapon?
And what should the item description read?

Oh, sorry. I meant like the Druid spell (can only Druids cast it?)
Brutes sound like an interesting idea. Definitely make them for Humans, Half-Orcs, AND Dwarves. Courtesan sounds like an interesting, though they'll need a little working out. Pyro, I'm not so sure about. Also, how high are their skill penalties?
Still, why can't Dwarves be seen as something cooler and more talented? *sighs*
Here's a thief kit idea of my own.
Cutpurse
Pros:
- Recieves a +10 point bonus to Move Silently, Hide in Shadows, and +20 to Pick Pockets
- Has a percent chance to recieve higher gold (which is also to a percent) from picking applicable NPCs' pockets per level
1st through 4th lvl: 5% at +10% more gold
5th through 9th: 10% at 15% more gold
10th through 14th: 15% at 20% more gold
15th+ lvl: 20% at 25% more gold
Cons:
- May not equip armor higher than leather armor (ie: no studded leather)
- Recieves a -10 Penalty to Detect/Disarm Traps and Open Locks-
- May not set traps
Sound good?

I love bards since I took one through the entire series and this kit is different enough from the others to grab my attention. So I'm not criticizing here, just making suggestions:
- It's a good idea to limit the weapon selection, but why the druid ethos? I'd limit him to daggers, short swords and short bows or crossbows. It seems more consistent with his class (rogue).
- There's a strength penalty, perhaps he should only get two proficiency points in ranged weapons? To emphasize the fact that he's not good at melee. He 's a lover, not a fighter.
- Bard song effect should imho not be confusion or chaos (after all, the jester has that already), but amplify the party's mental resistance (immunity or higher saves against charm, confusion and fear spells). After all, charm and charisma (i.e. influencing others) are this guy's strong point.
- Dire charm should definiteley an innate. How about a (not too powerful) version of nature's beauty?
She says: Lou, it's the Beginning of a Great Adventure
OK... good ideas.... basically I jsut had a concept and thought it would bring enough attention to give some good ideas. So here's what I'll try and do:
++ in weapon proficienciesand 2 and single weapon styles
uses only daggers, shortswords, shortbows, and crossbows with any skill
cannot use armour or shields
+2 str
-2 cha
Bard Song-> Immunity to Enchantments
Can cast Dire Charm once every 4 levels
Can cast Nature's Beauty once/day at lvl 20
How does that sound?
And to Galuf, there is a Gold Stat effect but there's a note that says it appears to be non-functional and doesn't do anything. It would also be pretty hard to test so I think I'll concentrate on your Priest of Bhaal. I think I ahve all the pieces done. Now I just have to make the kit and test it, but don't take that to mean I'm anywhere close to finished.

Woohoo! A 'ho! Give her a koochie pop innate ability, and a special quest involving her pimp daddy (also make it a requirement that the PC is named "John")

Well, since I added another evil Cleric, I might as well provide two others.
Cleric Kit: Priest of Oghma
Pros:
- May cast 'Identify' once per day per 6 lvls
- May cast 'Detect Illusions' once per day per 5 lvls
- May cast 'Invisibility Purge once per day per 7 lvls
- At 13th Level, may summon a "Spirit Monk"(presumed to be at 12 level, having +3 to hit and to THAC0, immune to disease, resistant to poison) once per day
Cons:
- May not equip armor (includes, body armor, helmet, shields, etc.)
- Must be of Neutral (as in Lawful Neutral to Chaotic Neutral) alignment
I'll think of the next good Cleric later.

-3 Int
-2 Wis
Thac0: low of course
Pro:
May use any weapon
Grandmastery in anything
.......
Against:
May wear up to studded leather at best
May not wear jewelry
Mage-based hitpoints
This means: Kill or get Killed
How does that sound?
Also, the downloadable templates anywere on the internet should provide you some inspiration

Well right now I'm working the kinks out of the Priest of Bhaal, but the Priest of Oghma sounds pretty cool. I'l get back to you when I have the Priest of Bhaal finished(and I'm takin my time). And NiteWulf, i'm sorry but I think that's a silly idea. But If I were to make it(and you could do it too, it's not that hard and for me at least involves a decent amount of troubleshooting), I'd probably give him the Rage ability somewhere along the line, whether it be permanent or acivated.

Courtesan sounds like an interesting, though they'll need a little working out.
It gives me an idea. In Medieval-Early Modern Japan, there're girls called "KUNO-ICHI". They were secret code for female Ninja. I suspect many people's Ninja image is different from what they exactly were, but basically they were combination of SP/assassin/spy/scout. They were also thought to have knowledge of medicine & poison, and were capable of unlock and disarming traps. They usually use short sword and throwing weapons. The Ninja in black is more of image of them than in reality. Since Kunoichi being female, they could also work in inns as serving wenchs or courtesans without raising too much suspicion. They were deadly assassin as well as excellent spy.
Now, how about them as a kit:
KUNO-ICHI
+2 DEX
+1 CHA
-2 STR
-1 CON
+2 Save vs Poison
+1 Save vs Charm & Sleep
Low THOAC
Infravision
Bonus to Thieving Skills
Follwing type of spells: Sleep, Poison, Cure Poison, Charm
-Cannot use Shields
-Can only wear Leather/Studded Leather Armour
-Can only use Short Swords/Daggers/Darts/Short Bows/Flail/Scimitar/Wakizashi
Slow progress in levels (Requires lots of experience)
Must be Human/Half Elf/Elf/Halfling
Must be Female
Just a thought.

Sounds pretty good to me. If that's a kit, what class does it go under?

Hmmm, it's probably under Rogue, but they were kinda mix between Rogue and Ranger (Stalker, in particular). Since it takes a lot to level up, it could be a Ranger kit.
Oh, and they can master in their weapon proficiency, and can create poison weapon (maybe throwing dagger for a change). And must be part Neutral in alignment.

Hmm.... sounds interesting. If you could figure out a definate and balanced layout for the kit I could try makin it as soon as I'm done with the Priest of Bhaal. Something about the damn dagger is giving me trouble. Off to teambg forums.

Hmmm...reminds me of the ladies from the James Bond films. I'd probably put them under the Thief class...

I already did once...
´T was quite an interesting project though, having him focussing on attack and others trying to heal him during battle.
Maybe a less silly idea: a Bushwacker
Crossing between assassin/swashy/ranger with prof on dagger, (cross) bow and some direcharm/animal summoning spells.
Sorta Robin Hood in men in tights: "I´m sorry, I meant your money AND your life"
Or the woodsman
Elven fighter/ranger with profs in axes and bows only, maybe some dire spells toot.

Mmm, I'm not an expert around here on kits nor AD&D games in general to think about balanced layout...
The reason I hesitate to categorise it as a Thief kit is thieves progress faster than I like. Apart from STR and CON penulties, this kit has more pros than cons (no armour/shield wouldn't affect much with high DEX, for example, and can cast spells, back stab, has all the thieve skills...). Giving slow progress in levels is one way to give a penulty on this kit, I thought. Also, it is more spy than thief, and they were certainly not rogues (hence neutral alignment, and can be lawful neutral).
If anyone come up with some idea to round up my idea, I can give my thought on them, though.
