Monsters

Which type of monster you liked best in the game in terms of concept, design, animation ?(dragons are excluded). And which was the worst type?
And what type of monsters you would like to see in the game?
As for me,I think elementals (air and fire) were well designed.
Worst?I can say one thing:Mind Flayers!I just HATE them. They seem so stupid, but when they drain your intelligence you know the result. And they are ugly in design.
Personally,i would prefer to see more monsters in the Underdark, like some Handmaidens of Lloth (you know these monsters than can take human form and trick any party) or some driders. They could also add more monsters in the open areas.

I kinda liked the Balors (a.k.a. Ravers). They're pretty much the only things that came as a surprise to me. When you hear dragon, slime, gnoll, or lich, you pretty much have a preconceived notion about what it might look like, and when you see it, there's little innovation.

But the Balor was a completely new to me. First, because it looked really nasty, like something out of a H. R. Giger book. Second, it looked nothing like the pictures in the montrous manuals.

I also liked the Sahuagins, the Kuo-Toas, and the Githyankis.

Personally I think Beholders look very cool and do have the coolest animation. They are my favourite monsters. Maybe because of the fact that I hadn't seen a beholder before, so I was kinda surprised when I saw one the first time Image

Trolls have the most ugly animation EVER seen, their "uppercut" looks pathetic, but well, since they are pathetic creatures I think the designers did this on purpose Image
So with them out of the race it must have been the umber hulks. Those doggy-like beings are kinda strange. I hate their confusion thingy, they move too d@mn fast and they hit too d@mn hard. They're more dog-$hit than dog-like with those facts on the table Image

I think the game lacks a quest with werewolves, like in BG on the "werewolf island" from the xpack, I really liked that one, one of my favourite quests back then...

Btw, is it just me, or were the Carrion Crawlers bigger in BG than they are in BGII?

Creatures I like: Beholders and Evil Eyes - especially after the encounter in the Sahuagin city. They simply look cool ... sometimes I just watch their animation in combat, without paying attention to the combat itself. Gauths are smaller versions, but they have less appeal to me.

Creatures I dislike: Kua-Toa's or whatever they're called. They are annoying, IMHO. They can see through your stealth or invisibility seemingly. The noise they make is annoying, and I also don't like their animation sequences.

Bordin: yes, you're right - the BG II carrion crawlers are smaller. Perhaps not enough carrion?? Image
