questions about arrows of dispelling

Post by Coconut_Crab »

Hi,

Does anyone use arrows of dispelling here?

I'm thinking about buying them, but they are very expensive and I'm not sure about a few things:

- whether they can dispell "stone skin"
- whether they can dispell "protect from magical weapons"
- whether they can hit liches

I think they work, according to the description, the same way as Staff of Magi and the 2-handed sword from Firkragg. If they do, does anyone know how much magically enhanced they are - +2 or maybe +3 weapon when considered what they can hit?

Thanks A LOT if someone can help me out.

Yes, the arrows DO help.

I used them on several mages, and it even dispelled some protections from Irenicus one time (Stoneskin for example)

They are not a waste of your money ;)

The arrows of dispelling are perhaps the most under rated uber weapons in the game.

Not only can they be effective in bringing down a mages defenses but also they are great for Defense as well. There are a wide variety of conditions (confusion, stun, and a bunch of others..just play with them to see) that effect a character friendly fire with arrows of dispelling will dispel the condition

Do not buy them seal them
A couple of potions of master thief and you have them save huge gold
If your character is evil you have no issues
Chatoic or nuteral/ good leave a note, return and pay him double !
As a good character you must stomp out the evil and need the arrows

Yeah, if it weren't for a 5-pack (as in only 5 of them) of Arrows of Dispelling I found at one part, I wouldn't have been able to defeat

Irenicus and have gone much farther in the game.

However, is there really any place that you can BUY them in BG2? I've never noticed, not on any shopkeeper, legal, or seller of fenced items.

@Galuf; Yeah, there is a shop in waukeens Promenade sort of above Ribalds adventure store. It contains two shopkeepers; one for armour and another for ranged items. The guys name might be pewter or something like that.Anyway he stocks about 5 or 6 batches of arrows of dispelling. You can also buy arrows of piercing there as well.

Cool.

I'll have to check that out soon enough. Kind of taking a short break right now.

@Coconut crab. For the first and second question the arrows will dispel effects if you have installed the latest patch and your character actually gets a hit with them. A Wizard Slayer with the Tuigan Bow using dispelling arrows and five points in short bow is pretty damn awesome. THe question about liches I[m not too sure about given some of there innate abilities. I find liches a bit weird sometimes. Worth a try though. If I had my computer with me { I have just moved back to Japan} I would test it out for you. :)

urm...

arrows will remove stoneskin, but not necessarily on the first hit...you see, its a low level dispell effect, so multiple rolls (hits) will increase the chances....

ALL magical arrows, unless they say they are +2 or higher, like the ones in watchers keep are +1...and yes, protection from magic weapons will stop it cold...

I am pretty sure most liches are immune to +1 weapons, but certain exceptions do exist...for example, the city gates lich cannot see invisible, and I suspect he is similarly nerfed as regards to lich immunities...

but if your party is lacking in spell power, arrows of dispell are an excellent addition to your arsenal...the best way to use them is to install the infinite ammo stacking mod in weimer's ease of use...I regularly equipp a archer type, like mazzy or minsc, with one slot for arrows of biting, my fav ammo, one for normal arrows, punches thru protection from magic weapons, and one with specialty ammo, for special situations, like +2 arrows or dispell arrows...simply open up the char, and click on the ammo in the quiver, and you are good to go....

In order to hit a lich.......U need at least a +3 (or +4, cant remembers which one) weapon. So with the hartseeker bow and these arrows you should be able to hit a lich

Edit: The Tansherons bow hits a lich too........I just checked it. So try equipping that bow with the arrows of dispelling.

Actually, IIRC, there is a certain lich in the game that is only able to be hit by +4 weapons or higher when his buffs are removed. In this case, that would be one that MANY of us know about and almost dread at times.

Coconut Crab: My advice, if you're facing the one I'm mentioning about, is to have a party member with either the Mana Bow (+4 long bow) or Gesen's bow (+5 short bow) when you do this. This may ensure that the arrow has a better chance to take effect. Of course, you should also pack some +4 or higher weapons for melee combat and possible spell interruption. Hope this may help.

The way that it works with bows and arrows is the thaco bonus of the PROJECTILE determines whether it can hit creatures with immunities to certain weapons...

but ammo less bows and crossbows, like the firetooth, gesen and others if you do NOT use the ammo, the thaco of the weapon is the thaco of the projectile...

so the gesen will hit demiliches without ammo, but should not be able to hit them with ammo...

so the heartseeker will not work unless you use arrows +2 or higher...

but tansheron without arrows will work...

now why then would you equipp arrows in the tansheron or gesen bows? you add the ghost arrow damage and electrical damage of the bows to the projectile special damage, for example, you would be able to fire poisoned electrical damage arrows with gesen and arrows of biting...

also, if you fire normal arrows thru the gesen, the normal arrows punch right thru protection from magic weapons, but it INCLUDES the electrical damage...so gesen with normal arrows will go right thru protection from magic weapons, and the electrical damage will punch thru stoneskin, can you say mage killer???

this is why mazzy is so effective...

but if the script of the mage includes protection from missiles you must breach them...

Thats allmost what I ment to say :p

Anyway....I only gave the tanserons bow as an example, as to what can hit a linch (if you dispelled his magics that is, but thats what this thread is about......)
