When you finish the game, the Elven Queen gives you an amulet. What does it does?
I tried importing the character i finished the game with but he didn't have it.
Anyway, here how I defeated Irnecus.
On the trees:
Nishruu does the trick. Before killing the last parasite, I just summoned a Nishruu beside him. When he turned hostile, I moved all my characters away and Irnecus wasted his spells on my Nishruu. The Nishruu is unsommuned before Irnecus runs out of speels so simply send another Nishruu and when this one is gone you should be able to kill Irnecus without problem
In Hell:
Before using the last tear I simply summoned 4 creatures (2 aerial companions and 2 skeleton warriors) and casted haste on my party. Insert the last tear. When the dialogue ends, simply moved all your characters to the south, out of sight of the demons. Your summoned creature should be able to distract the demon and the Slayer for you to do so. They are just there to buy time but my managed to kill the two Glaberzu. Once your creature are dead, the remaining vilains will stay were they are but after a certian amount of time, the Slayer will teleport himself just beside you. You cna now fight him without worrying about the demons.
Have fun

Irnecus Strategies + question *Spoiler*
Helm sees all. Do not offend him in intent or in deed!
Nice post, but with all due respect regarding the Hell battle ... the demons there are really not the problem. Once you've gotten that far into the game, you should be able to relatively easily dispatch those demons back to whereever they came from.
If someone can ruin your day there, it's Irenicus all by himself, because of the spells he casts.

It is very weird, but I did not have any problems with Irenicus. He seemed unable to hit my charcter, even as the slayer. I have no idea how, or why. But he was easy.
My wizard had some trouble (he was being attacked by a demon). So it took some time before he could remove Irenicus' protection spells. I don't think my main character was even hit by him during this time.
All I can think of is the 100+% fire protection I had.

"I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges."
*spoiler ahead, beware!!!!!*
Unless you're talking about a very restrictive company, the final battles shouldn't be too hard... I defeated Irenicus on the Tree of Life by Breaching his defenses and attacking him with Holy Avenger Keldorn and dual-wielding Minsc. I defeated Irenicus in hell by Breaching his defenses and attacking him with Holy Avenger Keldorn and dual-wielding Minsc.
Demons aren't a problem at that point of the game, and with the right gear Irenicus' offensive spells are mostly a waste of his time.
