First of all how come it seems like I can not back stab with missel weapons, or can I? Maybe its only melle weapons,?. I have a ghostwise halfling that is about 10th level theif/ cleric plus 4th level barbarian.

Also what determins how many attacts you get? It seems like some of my charactors get more than others.

How does armour check peniilties work? Does this affect a charactors offensiveness.

point 1:

you cannot backstab with missile weapons.

point 2:

the primary determinant of the number of attacks is your level (there is a table on the back of the manual). second thing that affects this is the weapon's speed (i.e. you can only go up to 4 attacks maximum with polearms, two handed swords, etc. and up to 5 with the smaller weapons) if you watch your characters closely, those with lighter weapons and higher dexterity will start their attack sequence earlier.

for the sake of completeness:

fighter, barbarian, paladin, ranger:

one attack: level 1 - 5
two attacks: level 6 - 10
three attacks: level 11 - 15
four attacks: level 16 - 20
five attacks: level 21 - 30

cleric, druid, rogue, bard or monk (armed)

one attack: level 1 - 7
two attacks: level 8 - 14
three attacks: level 15 - 21
four attacks: level 22 - 27
five attacks: level 28 - 30

Wizard or Sorcerer

one attack: level 1 - 11
two attacks: level 12 - 21
three attacks: level 22 - 30

monk (unarmed)

one attack: level 1 - 5
two attacks: level 6 - 9
three attacks: level 10 - 13
four attacks: level 14 - 17
five attacks: level 18 - 30

point 3:

the explanation for the armor check penalty is in the manual. here are the last three sentences of the paragraph devoted to that subject:

'If you are wearing any armor heavier than leather, you can't sneak as well as you would if you weren't wearing such heavy armor. This applies to Hide, Move Silently, and Pick Pocket checks. If you are wearing armor and using a shield, both armor check penaties apply.'

the exception to this (in IWD2) is Chain of Drakkas' Fury, which rocks.

Anybody,

Here is another question What is the value of a charactors effective level and how does effefect the actual charactor level? I think my paladin has an charactor effective level of one higher?

Also I do not have any D. &. D. 3rd edition rules. Can someone fill me in, Are the experiance points to gain per level about the same as in penand paper game vs. Icewind dale 2? Are the creatures exp. value changed from that of second edition rules. Also are hit dice in 3rd edition run like they are in Iwd2?

About the effective level - there are two opinions going around about it. One would be to say that if you have, for example, a character who has 6 levels of Fighter and 5 levels of Rogue, their effective level would be 11 (for the purposes of some calculations).

The other is about characters who are handicapped as far as levels are concerned. If you take a Drow character, for example, you get a lot of bonuses, but also this one quirk - his effective level is 2 lower than a normal character. Meaning if a normal character would need 1000 XP to go to lvl 2, your Drow character would need 6000 XP (the experience required to go to lvl 4 by a normal character) just to reach lvl 2.

Monks

Here's a new querk to my list of things I do not know. Monks, in general? Specificly, How does wisdom effect your ac? my situation is I have a 22 level evoker and he starts anew class at Black raven, ......Yes, Monk. I had to level up in Dale Keeper two because I've added some spells. A lot in fact. (*From what I gathered Wizards peak out at 21st level, I figure from there I'll just add more spells and make them real potent{like 12 stoneskins}. ?I could reduce a level of M-u and add to my monk one if it will help, but I noticed no ac. adjustment for my at think at least 16 wisdom. Is it because of something I'm wearing? I never played a monk untill now? Any input would be great.

That is not 100% correct!!
Monks can use wepons with no problem... It is if you use armor (Edit: thats incl. robe or anythink else in that "slot"!!!!) or shield that a monk loses their Wisdom to AC...
The Wisdom AC bonus represent a preternatural awareness of danger!!!

I used to learn the names, but it was a goddamned waste of time. Soon as I’d get to know a puke, he’d up and die on me. These days I don’t bother."

New Questions?

I have two new topics first one is old in a way, My Monk who is a 22 nd level wizard and currently a 1st level monk. I tried removing his armour and such but got no results. On or in his charactor sheet it says monk bonus to AC for wisdom, +0. ? Why is that, I have a sixteenth in wisdom. I am not sure if I used the dale keeper ro up his level or not but I figure It should work but it does not. Any advise would be helpfull. Thank you.

Also just A simple question on primary weapon weilding. Can a dwarf or halfling use a long sword as a primary just like any other charactor? Or is there penelties, Thanks?<>

New Querk

Any clue why drownded dead don't seem undead. Meaning, why is it that I can not effect them with disruption devices? Anybody know if it's possible to turn them?

New IceWind Dale 2 Querk

Why is it with my charactor that when she is armed with a crossbow it says she gets 4 attacks a round but after a couple shots it drops down to 1 attack a round? How do crossbows work and what seems to be going on here in this case? My charactor, Auireland, is a bard/Ranger I think like 12th in each. I don't know if its been for the fact that I did not notice this but she seemed to be droping enemies quick. Is it even possible to max out with crossbows? What is the best in the game?
