What does Spam mean?

Call me stupid but I don't actually know what it means. I thought it was something like putting advertisements in a thread, but I guess I'm wrong.

Check out Webopedia for the best answer to your question. Some people say it is an acronym for Stupid Posts And Mail, but in its most general use, it means any email that is unsolicited or intended to sabotage a mail server.

Around here, spam refers to any post that doesn't have much redeeming social value and is just for fun.
