Broken Quests?

Post by simpleranger »

I could use some advice. So far I have came across two quest problems. The first is dealing with Only-He-Stands-There and his unauthorized Restoration. No matter his dispostion he does not offer to either stop or to train me. He only keeps suggesting that I could persuade him even after being bribed to 100.

The second quest concerns the Stoine siblings and the 2,000 drakes owed to the C. Tong via the Vivec Fighter's Guild. I have spoken to the sister, found the body and returned to Vivec, but the Orc gentleman who gave me the quest only keeps asking me to go get the debt money, no mention is made of the brother. My journal has not been updated about this quest since I left the sister in Ald' Ruhn. Significantly, I am playing on my Xbox.

Does anyone have any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

for the 1rst quest. It is a mage guild quest i beleive. One of his speech options should get him to ask you to go to the mages guild and tell them he has stopped offering training. I beleive tha option should be "unauthorized training"

You can then go back to the guild and said that he stopped to complete the quest.

Thank you gekk0lias. Right, It is a Mage Guild Quest. I have asked him about "unauthorized training", with a disposition of 55-65, and he gives the reply of "Look at these people, they are too poor to pay, I am helping people, but maybe you can persuade me." I bribe him up to 100 and still get the "maybe you can persuade me" reply. Tonight I'll try bribing him first. Has anyone else seen this with Xbox version? I have been expecting DDEs but not this. Thank you again.

No, I haven't seen that happen before for He-Who-Stands-There on the Xbox version. Perhaps it's tied in to your race? I usually play an Imperial because their Voice of the Emperor ability is very handy, but if you're stuck with another race, just go to Caius Cosades and train in Speechcraft. Training is far better than bribing. If neccessary you can usually find/buy a potion of Bug Musk before doing that quest. For magical types one of the characters in the Balmora mage's guild sells a charm spell. Hope one of those solutions helps.
"Game Balance" is getting all players to complain equally.

Thank you

Necrotaur, Thanks. You were right, I was able to finish that quest off. I'll retrace the steps of the other one another time and admire/bribe everyone in sight. Thanks for your help.

Did you check the body - there should be enough to pay the debt? If you didn't, and since the body doesn't disappear, return to get the money. On the other hand that may be more trouble than it is worth - if you have sufficient cash simply pay the debt.

That is what I just ended up doing, paying the debt. I guess I never thought that I would have to go out of pocket for that debt. Stoine isn't even grateful. Thank you for all of your help.

I am having the same problem with only-he-stands-there. I can't seem to get the right dialogue option and I have bribed him several times. I don't quite understand the person's explanation either of how to make it work. I have clicked all his dialogue options with no luck. What am I missing? When I tried to kill him, everyone in the room was all over me and I died pretty quick, not trying that again.

Ahh I sorted it...sorry, I made a boo. I had asked for the quest in an earlier save. I then sold something I didn't want to and forgot to reget the quest... :o haha woops!

You have to complete the mages guild quest (unsanctioned training) before you can get training from 0-h-s-t, and then only if you lie to Ranis Athrys.
