Well i thought id try out making a module and did pretty well until it came time to link areas. The manual didnt seem to cover it that well so could some tell me how it is done.

If I recall there's a downloadable tutorial on the official website, it's in PDF format so be sure to get Adobe Acrobat. The site's down at the moment otherwise I'd post a link. The tutorial's really good for a newbie.
