Monk Question

Post by Stilgar »

I have a couple of questions about the monk.

First: can a monk wear a helmet? without any panalty's?
Second: What does wisdom effect for the monk?
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

About the helmet, I can't answer you. But I know that if the monk wears no shields and armor, he gains his wis bonus to AC...
I hope I helped. ;)

But does wisdom ONLY effect his AC? or also other things?
Cause if it effects only his AC, I would go for a higher dex, and weapon finesse.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Monks can wear helmets - and as far as I can see, mine doesn't seem to get any penalties from it.

Even wizards/sorcerers can wear helmets so they are considered more a piece of clothing as far as I can reason, then armorment as was the case in BG-series.

Wisdom also influences Will save throws, so I feel a good wisdom is nice for a monk.

Also remember that the way the point buy system is set up, a wisdom score of 14 combined with a dexterity score of 14 would give a bonus of 4 to AC - wich if given by dex alone would requier a dexterity of 18.
The former will cost 12 points from a base of 8 (6 points needed to go from 8 to 14 times 2) where as the latter will cost 16 points from a base of 8.
So it is more expensive going pure dexterity AC wise for a monk.

Ok, but what would you prefer?
16wisdom, 14dex
or 16dex 14wis.

The AC is the same
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I'd go for the 16 dex and the wis 14.

Why? Simply because you can take weapon finesse have a decent attack bonus.

Not to mention the higher dexterity helps in ranged attacks ;)

Nope. If it's in there monk weapons feat, they can use it. The only catach is (with the melee, aside from Kama) they lose the small bonus's to attack, that they would have if unarmed. Fighting at range, though, doesn't take advantage of those abilities though, so it's all good.
