some suggestions

Played IceWind Dale II? It's pretty sweet. Even the first IWD (especially with Heart of Winter, if you could be persuaded of expansions) is fun IMO.

If you've done BGII before and really like a challenge, how about BGII with Weimer's Tactics mod (you'll need ToB)? Its like having a new game at many times though much tougher. It's gotten me pretty stoked about the game again, it makes monsters kind of like they were if you played PnP games with a mad mother of a DM. The link is on one of the sticky threads if you want to check it out. Reading that thread can help you up to speed in general. There are some top-notch NPCs on the thread too that can help give a new take on the game.

IMO soloing BGI/BGII can be refreshing, though if you do you should get the XP-cap pullers for each game available through links on the sticky. (Though you'll have to be a really good soloer to pull off the tactics mod if you go the mod route.)

And then the old PlanetScape Torment if you havn't.
Tired of working here wanted a holiday was thinking of retiring probably going to die. Time to move on under down... down down.

I second that, Planescape is awesome, a really great, in-depth story, wonderful dialogue and really fascinating NPCs.

Go for Planescape Torment! Many think of it as the best CRPG ever.

Try playing/replaying BG1 again. I forgot how great a game it was, especially with the ToTSC expansion, and really enjoyed doing it again. That would be my first choice. The Fallout series is very good but you can't really control your party the same as in BG2. Still its a lot of fun and you can solo it if the NPC interface bothers you. (I almost always fight all the tough battles by myself so that my moron NPCs don't kill me by accident.) Then there's Arcanum, it should be on the discount shelves. It has the same problems with party controls though. IWD is also good but is very linear. Morrowind is extremely addictive as well but its a solo game and the character creation is lame (orcs and tiny elves and everything inbetween can all achieve the same stats). Planescape is fun and has some neat NPCs - it has a very compelling storyline. I agree with you on NWN - I just couldn't get into those lame 3D graphics. It didn't improve anything and the single player storyline is weak.

Arcanum is a very fun game, you have to admit. With a choice between magic and technology, it leads to quite a story line.
i like d&d...
