Does anybody consistently use it besides (spoiler):

- The Illithid lair in Underdark
- Demi-lich bashing
if at al?

Even with Ascension installed, I hardly find it useful. Not even against Improved Irenicus.
Fighters fight best without it, mages and clerics should be able to do more damage by casting spells. Maybe thieves could benefit for it, but the only one I've played was a f\t multi, so he fought better without it anyway.

I don't use it at all; it was useful as a plot device during Spellhold, IMO, but after that, meh... Honestly, to keep it more interesting I think they should have left the transformation a semi-random occurrence, and perhaps tied a little more to the romances? Dunno. I only liked it as a plot device, though, even a weak one at that.

I don't even bother transforming for Lich bashing or the Illithid lair. I used it a couple of times in my first game (when I didn't even know about the Illithid cheese), but have found it useless ever since.

Never used it voluntarily. Turned into slayer in the bodhi lair and didn't like it; I started killing my own party. No fun.

I only use it to lose some rep points if rep gets too high again :/
I do this because I always have Korgy in my party(love him :) ) and he does the bashing.

I usually only use it for rep loss. I looks cool, but otherwise is pretty weak. I use the ctrl+R cheat for permanent shapechange on my thief as soon as he gets use any item. Heh, really fun.

cast prot from magic energy or energy to allow you to stay slayer longer....

the damage the slayer form takes is magic damage, but you can still get killed if you stay slayer too long...

also, if you have tactics mod, and in a fit of masochism installed improved beholders, it will protect you from hive mother imprisonment....

still nowhere nearly as useful as spell immunity abjuration

When you transform voluntarily you don't start attacking other party members; instead, you get the abilities (which seem to be immunity to imprison; as far as I can tell thats it) of the slayer with just a quick reputation drop.

Ron's right. (And welcome to GB.) The keyword is "voluntarily." At first when you change, you have no control over the monster that's surfaced. After a couple of times, however, you get hold of it. FWIW, my suggestion is to send your party screaming for the hills when those first changes hit your PC. When the icon for the change appears among your powers, you'll know that you've got a conscious handle on it.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Seldom use it as i find that by the time you get this ability you are better in original shape.

The trick about closing the door / keeping your party well away from the slayer transformation has one big disadvantage - it prevents any romance / NPC interreactions.

edit:

Personally, I prefer just running away.

Of course, if you accidently left the boots of speed on the PC...

i never used it. if it could penetrate protections or some other ability on each hit it would be good, but otherwise its just like a summoned undead to me and my character is far superior

I used it a lot in the first game, when I thought a fighter mage cleric was a good idea. I still prefer to use it in the Illithid lair, my rep is usually 20 by then anyway.
