'bad people'
'bad people'
you know the quest where you're asked to kill the 'bad people' in balmora? well I got the four names and killed them. and the dude in the fort who gave me the quest isn't doing anything. I've tried it a few times by different methods, but it isn't working. am I missing something here? it's getting rather annoying...

After you have killed the four "bad people" return to the fortress and talk to the person you got the quest from. He will ask "Yes, is this about the work we discussed earlier?". Choose "work" from the dialouge options and he will thank you and present you with your reward. He will also make any bounties aquired from the killings disapear.
This is how it should work and if it does not work for you i do not have any idea why.

Maybe the problem is that you didn't kill all the 'bad people'. There are five, not four, bad people/Commona Tong to be killed. Did you get the gal down the ramp that leads to the two bedrooms? The publican isn't one of them, per se, but he is Commona Tong and therefore a legitimate target. You need to kill the blacksmith near the door, the three in the main club room with the publican and the gal down by the bedrooms.

Azzilla, pleae check the gamebanshee rules about spamming. This last post wasn't necessary since it didn't answer the question or contribute to the thread. Posting just to get your post count up will just get the spam pulled. Also please stay on topic, threads like "How do I become a moderator" and "How do I become an exalted member" don't belong in this forum.

heh, I just killed everyone - apart from the barman, although I was sorely tempted - and that did it. pity the reward sucked so hard though. ah well.

Spoiler:
Unless you like the Commona Tong you should kill the barman as well. If you do the Imperial Temple quests the almoner guy in Ebonhart will ask you to get the various clubs in Balmora to donate 5 Cyrodilic Brady's. If you go to the Corner Club where the thief guild is and talk to the owner on the 2nd floor he will tell you to that the Commona Tong barman just got a shipment of brandy in and that you might want to relieve him of it to get your quota. So you may as well do it now and be done with it. Also you might want to go up on the roof and taunt/kill those two CT thugs as well. I make it a self imposed quest to find as many CT and Dark Brotherhood assassins as possible and kill them. If you are in the Morag Tong you can recognize them easily because they will say "I am an assassin, what I do is my business" (or words to that effect) when you ask about their backgrounds. If you are member of the Theif guild and a guy says he's a thief but doesn't call you brother and ask if you have any jobs then he is CT. Some of the DB guys have Sanquine items on them also. There are CT hangouts in Gnaar Mok, Sadrith Mora, Hla Oda, etc that can be discovered and wiped out, not to mention most of the Dren Plantation guys (be careful there, some of them are good guys, just watch for the different dialog options). Anyway, glad you figured it out. The Imperial Guard captain that gave you the sucky ring will give you another quest if you ask him for more jobs.

yeah, I've done the cyrodilic brandy quest - closed the door and half-inched the lot while they couldn't see me - and have found a couple of their other hideouts. and killed the guys on the roof - they had some nice stuff too. it was just getting extrememly annoying when I couldn't even work out how to complete the first damned quest from him when I've reached level 25 and have started to max out some skills.

2 things
There's 5 of them, barman is just a decoration. 5=1+3+1. The smith at the entry, 3 in the main hall and 1 at the bottom of stairs.
It happened to me to run into simmilar situations. In one case thieves told me nothing because even the "bad people" option was missing in option list. In other - just as it was said, there was no reward neither admitting the fact. I had to start from the savegame (very recent, lucky enough). One of the causes, i suspect, was leaving the fort by Almsivi intervention right from inside (interventions are the best way to travel between fort and Balmora on any other ocassion save this one), it was all ok when second time i left the building before casting the spell. I guess there might be some check at the door. What version are you playing? I remember complaints that Tribunal broke the very first Temple quest, and well known fact that initially BM broke the main storyline, so it may be just another bug.
