It also doesn't help that the primary audience of the Dixie Chicks is the conservative country music crowd who is prone to blind obedience and supporting fellow rednecks (like Dubya). Other bands, such as Indigo Girls, have criticised the Dubya and the war, but have experienced no such backlash (partly because their audience is politically center-left and partly because they aren't played on mainstream radio very much).
Wow, Mr. Dave, way to insult a whole spectrum of people! (Dixie Chick/country music listeners.) Got any data to support the claim that "the primary audience of the Dixie Chicks is the conservative country music crowd who is prone to blind obedience and supporting fellow rednecks" - ? While we are at it, how do you define "redneck," anyway? I would be glad of enlightenment on that one.
Hey! I know what lets do: lets play a little game where we take HLD's statement, and turn it 180 degrees so that we have a fair and balanced perspective here.
Here we go: It also doesn't help that the primary audience of the Dixie Chicks is center-right and tends to support like-minded political figures (like Dubya). Other bands, such as Indigo Girls, have criticised the Dubya and the war, but have experienced no such backlash (partly because their audience consists primarily of whacked-out neo-hippy lesbians and partly because they aren't played on mainstream radio very much).
There are all sorts of people out there, with all sorts of ideas and opinions. Just because they are different from yours doesn't mean that they should be tagged with insulting labels.
