I've killed Irenicus five times (spoilers)

Post by Laurelei »

I posted this on Interplay's troubleshooting board as well, but thought I'd try here too as I am totally frustrated and am generally more familiar with this board.

I have been through the final hell battle with Irenicus a total of five times. All five times I have killed him, been congratulated by the elves, watched him get swamped by demons in hell, watched the guys around the table talking about me, listened to what appears to be the "in-between" movie from SoA to ToB (ends with something to the effect of "as long as Bhaal's throne of blood remains empty, chaos will reign"--heck, if I have to keep doing this over and over again I'll have the damn script memorized) and then gotten an illegal operation.

Have deleted all files in bgii/cache/data directory, bgii/tempsave directory, bgii/temp directory, tried again, same result. Needless to say, I'm getting REALLY good at defeating Irenicus ;) However, I'm obviously not very good at moving into this blasted expansion that I paid 30 bucks for. Anyone got any ideas? Anyone with a similar problem?

Hmmm...
Sounds like youve done everything readily avaliable, so you might have to do a complete-reinstall. At this point, it seems to me that is about the only option left, unless one of the board members more skilled in this has another suggestion.....

Well, I don't have a solution to your problem, but I do have something that'll make troubleshooting a bit easier. Use the CluaConsole cheats to kill Irenicus instantly. It'll save you some time.

Just import the game from the "final save" .

I had problems with the Baldurdash patch (but with getting to Yaga-Shura) and had to re-install. Worked after that.

If you use your "Final Save" game you will not have the Hell attributes. I used my final save, noticed that I had none of the attributes (Gaaah!) and went back to whopp Irenicus.

I did uninstall all the Baldurdash stuff prior to installing ToB. Sheesh, if I reinstall, will I have to start all over? It's taken me months (real time) to get to this point. I'm a slow player and can't devote a whole lot of time to gaming....

One thing to try before re-installing is click the mouse during the Irenicus movie. This will stop the movie and move on to the next phase. I had a similar problem and this worked for me. You won't have to replay any of the game if you re-install. Just move your "save" directory somewhere else before you install, then move it back after the install. All your save games should be intact and ready to load up.

Reinstalling shouldn't affect anything in your saved game folders. Just to be safe you could copy everything in your c:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\save directory to another folder and then reinstall. If the reinstall overwrites any of your saved game stuff, just copy it back from My Documents (or where ever you saved it) to the save folder and you should be good to go.

--Just as a side note, those "illegal operations" always make me nervous; I wonder if some jack-booted software agents are going to kick my door down and arrest me.

Thanks for the replies, all. I have tried to click the mouse during either one of the movies, total lockup occurs when I do that.

I am somewhat upset with Interplay's board, I guess I thought that Interplay's tech support people might monitor it, but it seems that if we can't figure out our own problems we are just SOL. Maybe I'll use their diagnostic tool and try to contact support via email and see if they have any advice.

Guess I'll be reinstalling tonight if time permits. What a mess :(

Baldurdash has what could be considered a 'hack' program specifically designed to fix bugs that Interplay does not fix within the game with their patches. I know over 50 bugs were fixed with the SoA patch from baldurdash.

Yeah, but Baldurdash isn't a licensed Interplay product. If something goes wrong with Baldurdash installed, well guess what, they ain't responsible for the outcome. By putting in a third party program, you could've introduced a wide variety of problems that you may not know of. That's why I never use third party software.

I got your email Prateek, thanks for the input. However, Ctrl+Y is not my issue, because killing old Irenicus is just a plain old breeze by now. I could do it in my sleep. My problem is that I cannot in any fashion get past the final movies into ToB.

I understand the points about the Baldurdash thing, I will try a reinstall, but I honestly don't think that will help, as I have gotten several emails from folks WITHOUT Baldurdash EVER who had to hack their characters into ToB because of this same problem.

And in defense of Baldurdash, if the developers would support their product properly, Baldurdash would not be necessary :p I never installed any of the
"tweaks" from Baldurdash, nor have I installed any of the third party romance tweaks. I haven't used Shadowkeeper, I haven't used CLUA Console (although it looks like I'll be forced to, not by Baldurdash, but by Bioware). On a bug-related note, I'm a female character not even HAVING the romance with Jaheira and the Harper plot is still broken  The only Baldurdash things I ever used were FIXES for things that even the Bioware/Black Isle/Interplay folks admitted were broken. And then never bothered to fix. I'm sure it's cheaper and easier for them to let the fans fix their products for free, and thank God people like Kevin and Sabre are willing to go to the trouble.

While I admire the creativity and the genius of those who created a game that I myself am spending a great deal of my own time trying to get to run properly, (time that I could be using to play a game that is better supported and thus put money in someone ELSE's product, but still I persist), I find the lack of followup by those who are actually profiting from this venture shameful.

And that's it for my ranting for this evening. Flame away if you must, these are my opinions and I have expressed them in a fit of frustration. I am off to defrag, refrag, unfrag, delete, reinstall, whatever else I can do so I can stop working on the game and start playing it again.
