Yes, it is. I run Win 2000 and have never experienced any problems.

Hi erveryone!
I also experienced no problems using W2k, but I have to use an Admin account, which is not exactly what w2k ist meant to do a normal user!
Is there a way to play BG2 with a normal user account?

thx ind advance, buburli

You need to be an admin to install, IIRC, but a plain old user should be able to play it once its installed.

Those that understand binary and those that don't

Thx for the hint, but:

You are right, that is it only possible to install as an administrator (or as member of administrators group).
If I install as admin or as user who got admin rights just for the install procedure, there is no way to play without admin rights! :(

btw, I use the german installation with the latest patch (I Think 2.0.3.7) applied.

Are you able to play as "user"???

nt uses user profiles to grant permission for certain rights to the system...you have to understand this is an nt server concept, and even if a system is not used as a server, nt will still adhere to the server/client model...

try using the "power user" account, I think that account is still part of the default installation, or use usermanager, if you know enough about computers, to give a user read, write and execute programs on the volume...

most likely, the account you are using has the rights to read data, and execute programs, you need write permission, since that is typically only on the default user directorys....oh yeah, you need create new directories, since bg2 saves require the right to create new directories....

Thx for advice, but im used to nt profiles an i've also tried a power user. unfortunally it dowsn't work anyway! :(
I've also granted full access for all users to the bg2 directory, with no result.

the only way i see so far is to run the programm under admin rights, but this means i have to type in the admin password evry program start, so ....

are there anymore suggestions?

thx, buburli
