Cowled Wizards???

Post by Kahlan Amnell »

They warned me against using magic in town...duh... but then, for no apparant reason, my main character started attacking them, so naturally the rest of the party got involved, even an Amnish soldier was attacking them... so I killed three Cowls with the help of a soldier. Will this cause any problems for me later in the game?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a (hopefully) minor hickup.

Beyond needing to get a liscense for further magic use (council of six building) you should be fine.

Okay... hopefully it isn't a big deal... I know I will purposly kill a cowl later in the game because of my alignment and this is my second time through, but I've never had my characters just out right attack a cowl for no apparant reason, other than maybe Minsc and Boo got just a little too offended when my girl was told she couldn't use magic... They did let me buy a liscense, so hopefully everything is okay..
Thanks!

This sounds like it should be in BG2 forums. Not sure though, but I dont recall Cowled Wizards or Amish soldiers in the expansion.

It only creates a problem if your main char is a mage and you want to get the Planar Sphere (Valygar quest) as a stronghold. Otherwise its not a problem.

I beat up the Cowled Wizards all the time. Eventually, if you make them angry enough, Tolageris himself comes to fight you. He is VERY hard, but once you defeat him, the cowleds get scared and stop attacking you.

If Tolgerias comes to fight you before you do the Planar Sphere and/or talk to him about Valygar, what happens? Will another mage take his place? On my evil character (my only one, I find good much more enjoyable), I would consistently anger the Cowls, but have never been approached by Tolgerias. Have you done the Planar Sphere in that game, and if so, did you do it before or after Tolgerias attacked you? I'll also try it out for myself by just beating Cowl after Cowl after Cowl in a game before and after the Sphere.

tolgarious should never appear on the streets...

???

I never ever pay extortion money, so i regularly deliberately attack the cowled wizards, and use evil tricks to kill them...they often carry very powerful spells, one time i got a spell trigger scroll in chapter 2...if you kill off enough groups they will send their strongest mages, and if you whack them they leave you completely alone...

and killing off the cowles never cause a problem with the planar sphere...I sorta consider them a resource to be exploited, rather than an annoyance or problem... :p

Doesn't killing cowled wizards cause a big rep drop?

If not, I got a brand new Exp / GOld / magic source, methinks!

No rep drop here. I just finished snuffing the last group of Cowleds yesterday and, although my rep is 7 it isn't from killing the wizards  .

Save your money, get xp and get rich. I would just recommend casting spells on the streets when there are no major battles going on or things could get rough.
