Bringing up baby
Bringing up baby
I have been in hiatus for some time and this year is the scariest year in my life. In a few weeks there is going to be another man in my life.
He is going to be our first ... AND WE HAVN'T GOT A CLUE!!!!!
HOw do we raise a child when the parents happen to be weird, nerdy, dorks who spend their time playing AD&D p&p style, vedio games and comic books?
Please be as serious or as comical as you wish, I could use a good laugh on how to raise a bundle of joy.... GAMER STYLE!

sleep takes a vacation when baby is in the house.
First of all, congrats on the upcoming little bundle of joy. I'd like to think that the child will grow up in an entertaining environment.
I don't have a child, heck I doubt I'd know how to look after one at the age of 19 but parents have a flair for these things. There are probably books out there that could help, but you and your partners intuition would be more valuable. It tends to look easy at first anyway, just feeding and changing diapers. Its once they start talking back that things can get hectic. But then again what do I know...

Well - I have not tested this one, but I could guess that when the KidHardware cries, needs changing etc. that the cheatcode "DADDY" could work for the women. Unless of couse the KidHardware needs some kind of fluid Software

Jennabard, is that you?!?
*hug* Great to see you... you've obviously been keeping *ahem* busy while you've been away. Congrats. Dark Flame membership never expires, it just ages, like a fine wine...
What indeed. I observe the precise opposite - it's before they can talk that's the worst, because then mummy has to be psychic in order to work out what they're crying about this time... Once they can talk, they're much easier to deal with. Try these phrases:Originally posted by Tamerlane

"You go to your room and stay there until you're going to be nice!"
"... or you'll go straight to bed with a smacked bottom!"
"If you do, maybe you can have something yummy."
Frankly, if I can look after kids then anyone can.
And if all else fails, try the spell Summon Grandma (Conjuration/Summoning, Level 3)
Who, me?!?

Heck no! We even tried to flag you down a few weeks ago when we saw you posting on the KotOR forum! If you search back a bit in SYM, you'll see a thread dedicated to you...Originally posted by jennabard
By the way , I've miss coming to gamebanshee.... I wonder if my Dark Flame membership has expired?
Now, as to your questions: First, Congratulations! I'll bet he's gonna be the cutest little guy ever! Second, I've had a bit of experience with kids (my oldest just went into Kindergarten this year. The first few months can be very exciting. Just be sure that your hubby waits on you hand-and-foot, because you're gonna be tired! However, I found that the soothing sounds of Baldur's Gate or some other computer game can help get you through those times when the baby won't be laid down and will only sleep in your arms. I found that strategicly placed pillows can leave your hands free to reach the keyboard and mouse....
If I think of more, I'll let you know!
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Well, must say congrats! I'm getting my first little evil clone in a few month now.
I don't really know how to do every time, but at least I managed to take care of my two little sisters when I was just about 10 years old... I know it's gonna be hard sometimes but i'm sure it's gonna be worth it!

Children, especially babies, especially tiny infants, are high-maintanence. However, pretty much all of it comes under very basic care and attention. The most important thing is to provide physical affection, and direct communication right away.
Our modern commercial culture thrives on the distance between parents and children, reinforcing this without malice to supply endless goods and services. The way around this is to build bonds early on. Never view an infant as a person you can simply drop in and visit. They're a responsibility, a privilege, and a joy--even at 3 AM.
Some idiots have long said that babies can't understand what you say, but that's nonsense: they are geniuses, carefully synthesizing all physical data in a universe they've just entered, and producing results that would surpass any adult.
Disclaimer: mind you, I'm just putting together everything I've read and seen, and drawing upon my own abusive childhood experiences in reverse. I don't have children, so others have more hands-on experience.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Many Congrats!!! and Welcome back!!!
LOL......as far as advice goes....I'm afraid my two were raising me, and not the other way around......But the two most important things to remember is to love them, and to love them
