It's rather easy.

You go into the room around the bottom of the map that looks like a checkerboard (and has an Ice Golem standing in the middle of the checkerboard area). If you switch around the levers on the bottom left side of the room to to point where a text message over the Ice Golem (who acts as a referee for the Battle Square function) says "Temple Maintenance Selected" and then push the left-most lever to activate it. Then the prism device will be repaired.

And if I remember right, you'll get a message when the repairs finish (it only takes a second), you'll get a text message from the golem saying something to the fact of "Please be careful next time."

Thx for your spoiler. I should have remembered. I have seen the temple maintenance setting for the switches.

Now just figure out how the battlesquare works.

Speaking of the battle square .... what items do you get when you beat all of its level settings? Is it worth it to go through all that trouble to beat them? Also .... how do you beat that HUGE skeleton that looks like a mantis. Its the one that appears when you select the center square. I've never been able to beat it.

this is an exellent walkthrough, includes items:

as for the boneguards, you need to hurt them with enchanted blunt (bludgeoning) weapons. you get some damage bonus that way. slashing and peircing damage is reduced. fire damage works well too, iirc. oh, and by the time you win rank 6 - you won't have any problem with them...
