GAAAAAAAAAAAH! Random crashes! (Spoilerish)

Post by Ron_Lugge »

<Rants>

I'd just gotten his heart extinguished, so I went ahead and attacked his base. I was holding my own (barely!) and starting to forge ahead against his army. He shows up, and I have my mage (re) cast project image, then a timestop-alacricity-"Every spell in the book"-combo from the image. My timestop runs out (after I unloaded so many spells that it caused my screen to freeze!) and managed to get him to die. Then, instead of visiting with the solar...

I crashed. !@(*#&%(@#*&%*(#@&% I'd waded through I don't know how many of his troops, used up 3 project images (out of 5, I think...) and killed that **** *****, and instead of saving, I DIE!

</Rant>

Yeah, I'm upset. Any ideas on how to stop this random crashing? Normally, I go to the desktop with a dialog box saying "BG2 caused errors, windows is creating an error log and shutting it down." This last time, I just had a black box that I had to use task manager to shut down. (I run my screen at a high resolution than BG; I'm guessing that if I compared the two the black box in the upper left would have been the 800X600 the game runs at)

It's not just you. That same thing has happened to me at that exact same moment, so you're not alone. I wish I could tell you some clever way of keeping that from happening, but all I could do was just load up a save and beat him again.

After a bazilion tries (alright, 5!) I figured out a way to not have it happen. Use ctrl-J to skip over the bridge, and the monsters don't spawn. Use lots of rests, and eventually yaga-sura comes back after being run off to "get reinforcements". (I probably coulda just sat and waited, but I figured his return was based on game-time so it'd be quicker to rest. And, if I was wrong and it was based off of troops-killed, then the FGs I was killing would get his attention).

He returns after 2-5 seconds, so no ned to rest. Have no idea about the crashes.
