What's up with resting?

Post by Korvin »

I don't get it, every time I try to rest in the moathouse, a lot of stuff appears, I pretty much can't rest at all....is it supposed to be like that? I mean, I only have that many spells and health points, I DO NEED to rest at least sometime, right?

well,

At the moathouse's courtyard, theres a door at the gate, with a giant spider inside and a chest, if you kill the spider there, u can use that spot to rest.

To my experience everytime you try to rest with the "yellow tent" u get an encounter, no matter what.
This sucks, 'cause it should be a chance to have one ... maybe fixed in a future patch ?

I find it quite exhausting to run to the city everytime I need rest anywhere in the wielderness...is there a better way to do this that I'm unaware of? There's no question that resting is essencial for success.

And thanks, I did discover that tower earlier, but now I found out that it's actually no matter where you are, the encounter will happen, which makes little sence to me.

Well,

In the tower where the giant spider is/was, there u can always rest safely, anywhere else out there u can't.

Did anyone find a place to rest in the temple itself?

Welcome to the "old style" world of D&D modules. ;) I still remember with annoyance how often you couldn't rest in those SSI gold box games without havnig your slumber interrupted. The wilderness might as well have been the LA Freeway.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Yeah, but this is plain rediculous...I have to run all the way through the temple of evil, and get out to get to town and rest in that filthy Inn. I think I spend more time running around to where I can rest than I actually do something...

I don't know how most of you play, but I have mass amounts of money and nothing to spend it on. I could buy and horde healing potions if i wanted, but i don't...that's one way to heal.

There are safe places to rest in the temple, just tricky to find them.

Paladins, clerics anyone? nah, me neither but that's what they're for... if you could just rest anywhere then healers would be worthless.

Hu, yes, Clerics, Paladins and Druids can help but they have the bad habit to run out of spells at a certain time and need to rest so we're back at the starting point ...

Hi all,

I think it should be nice if it was possible to rest in the temple for 8 hours (to recover spells) and only get an encounter if u rest to get healed.
That would be nice.
And I've scooped out every corner in the Temple's first 4 floors and there's not one spot where u can rest safely.

I usually use my cleric to heal after battles, and that works great, untill I run out of spells offcourse :p .

well, i think the odds of resting for 8 hours with no encounter is 25%. I read that somewhere and it seems about right. That's not too bad if you rest when your party isn't almost dead.

I've had absolutely no problem resting, just rest when you are healthy enough to take on one or two random encounters and only rest 8 hours at a time. If you have to gain alot of health simply set your memorised spells for healing, rest for 8, cast spells, change memorised spells back, rest 8 more. Okay, I might get a few encounters but hardly enough to be considered a real problem most of the time.

Got to agree with Asny. Rest for 8 hrs at a time, and don't do so when you can't survive getting jumped by one or two random wandering monsters. With that in mind I haven't had any problems resting in the temple.

I thought that your skill in the Survival (feat?) determined how lucky you are at getting some sleep without an encounter.
Was I wrong?

I think Survival helps you avoiding random encounters while travelling.
