Maybe it is a good idea to setup an IRC channel so all of our members can chat with eachother at the same time.
It is easier then talking through pm, and sometimes easier too then MSN or ICQ
I hope there are many more members who think the same
Another suggestion
It could be fun to discuss a point with a large group at the same time, if you don't have the email-adresses you can't get a large discussion and besides, you have to add everybody to your contact list, and mine is already filled
Of course you can go to a chatroom, but that has the same effect as an IRC channel, except there are a lot more people who probably aren't interested or talking about something else, that can be quite confusing IMO.
But I'd like to hear some more opinions and hope we can get this through.

I agree with Stilgar.
We have already had enough problems within message boards, and chatrooms are more difficult to monitor for already stressed moderators and Buck. Not to mention the stress that would mount on the server (I'm not specialist, so I need to ask Buck for that, though).
Another thing is, I love this site because of the wide range of people joining in from all over the world. It will be less so with chatrooms, as we can only chat with people who log on at the same time. I won't have a chance to hear from people in American continent, for example.

I don't think chatrooms are meant to replace the boards, but rather replace msn/y!/icq communication. This way it'll be easier to communicate and will bring the community closer together since anyone can join in a chatroom, but it's not so in instant messangers.
Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak

Is an easy hack to implement for chat, if it's deceided it's necessary. I say implement chat functions for a month and if it doesn't work out just remove them.
I'm sorry if I'm pushing the matter, but I think the community needs something like this to replace IMs.

pming etc is great if you've got friends - but what if you haven't?! I do see the difficulties though of having a chat room. I speak only from a user point of view and that's the easy part!
Can we have a weepy smillie? One with a violin playing in the background would be nice.
