New player
I have been playing BG2 until my PC blew up (circuits fried by lightning) just when Irenicus had 1hp left!!!! Now a year later and after I was introduced to miniature wargaming (LOTR Battle Game by Games Workshop) I have got a new PC and am starting up again. But what I need is help for veteran player/s!
For Gondor!

Welcome back to BG land!
There is no perfect party. Parties which possess melees, priests, mages and thieves typically are a bit easier to play, but it's possible to do the game solo or in wildly unconventional groups, with skill & care. When choosing NPCs, think about what you want them to do.
Tactics are mostly a matter of understanding the strengths and vulnerabilities of your party & your enemies. Remember: Monster can't open doors & can often be split form each other. Dispel protections from enemy mages (Breach, Remove magic, etc.) or be prepared to eat some nasty spell damage
What in particular about it? Go see the lich, don't select the "It's party loot" option in dialogue & the rest is pretty straightforward.
Well, that depends on your party. Assignments should fit roles (best bow to your main archer, assuming you have one) You may wish to specialize your melee fighters in different weapons so they can use the various nice drops you'll find.
Have fun!

Best equipped person as well as good party items and who they should go on.

I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
You must remember that evil characters are little bit more usefull than good (like more spells slots of Edwin or Viconia< and she has high magic resistance>) but good characters have quests with more XP (Nalia etc.)
I have good team:
1> ME
2>Minsc
3>Jaheira
4>Nalia
5>Imoen
6>Anomen
and evil team:
1>ME
2>Korgan
3>Cernd
4>Viconia
5>Edwin
6>Imoen
In ToB you can get more usefull team but I like my teams much!

Re: Well..
Valygar and Viconia dont mix and (i think) valygar doesnt like korgan. (in a killy stabby way)

You can mix good & evil characters in the same party, though there can be complications . IIRC About the only combos who won't work in the basic game are Aerie/Korgan and Viconia/Keldorn.
Have fun!
