Romance: Sleeping with Girl Drow "Phael"-**Spoilish?**

Post by StormBringer »

Possible spoiler (weak) about Romance. This is a question. My character is a Male, Half-Elf Ranger. My party consists of Aerie, Minsc, Jahiera, Nalia, and Valygar. My character has been getting romanced (lightly) by Aerie. I've never heard a word from Jaheira, which surprises me, since I read so many posts of people complaining about how she is so irritating. She is not at all in my game? Anyway, Aerie and I decided (In some dialog, a long time ago in about Chapter 3) that we should wait until more important matters get cleared up, but should someday get together when the dust settles. Not much else has been brought up (romance-wise) until Chapter 5 in the Underdark. (By the way, we have never slept together, nor has my character "done-it" with anyone). Well, during the Ust Natha questing, I meet the Princess Drow, I think her name is Phael. After doing several quests for her, she finally gets pushy (female drow are dominant sex) and basically demands that I spend the night with her. Since I am disguised as a drow, and supposed to be acting like one (so I don't blow my cover) I finally give in and act the submissive male and spend the night. I even tried refusing, but that option ends up in a fight, and I had to kill her. But, since she is still important to keep allied for the completion of specific quests (Eggs), I reloaded and spent the night.

Well, the next morning, Aerie threw a temper-tantrum, and didn't even let me talk to her...just saying "I guess you're just not who I thought you were." I am now part way through Chapter 6, in Suldanessellar, and I haven't heard a word out of Aerie. (Except her usual 'being underground is just not for the Aeriel, blah, blah, blah'.

So I'm just wondering, did I blow the romance for good? I wouldn't really care too much if I did, except now, after reading about Throne of Bhaal, existing romances will continue in the expansion...but no new ones are possible. I would like to see what new interesting romance threads they have put in ToB.

This just seems weird though...that there seemed no other option, but to 'stay' with the drow princess. She offered no other choice. Was this just some ultimate Romance Thread-Test? You have to kill the drow princess, and solve the Dragon Eggs Quest some other way without her staying alive,....if you want to continue your romance? Or, is Aerie just taking her time to realize I really had no choice, for the good of the party, to do what I (The Character) did. It would be nice to try to explain to her how hard it was for me to "take one for the team", and tell her how I hated every minute of it, and was thinking of her the whole time, Yada-yada-yada.

So anyway, does anybody know, will Aerie eventually come around? Or is the Romance blown? And if it's blown, can any others start...such as with Jaheira? If not, I guess I won't be getting none in ToB either!

You can talk your way out of it, though the option might not be available if your wisdom isnt high enough (I had 15, Human Stalker)

Anyway, you tell her that you belong to another, and then you tell her that it isnt anybody you know.

She'll assume that a handmaiden from Ches Nasad collared you and will let you go on your way.

I was romancing Viconia at the time, btw

Well shoot. Then I guess I probably blew it for this game then. Unless I go WAAAAY back to a save game before-hand. Not worth it just for a little romance dialog. Or, maybe, eventhough you can talk your way out of it like you said, maybe Aerie will still come around with what I did? I doubt it though.

Do you really think Wisdom Stats effect dialog threads? Are you just guessing, or do you know that the game actually takes that into account? :(

Always believed it is INT and CHA what matters in Drow city, though.

There are two ways to answer your question. Both involve delving a little deeper into your game than you can get by just playing. You've probably read the drill on activating the game console; if not, the short doc on it is to put "Debug mode=1" under the Program Options section of your baldur.ini, then when you're in the game, you hit ctrl-space to bring up the command line. Then you type
CLUAConsole:GetGlobal("AerieRomanceActive","GLOBAL").

The other way to get the answers you seek is to just download Shadowkeeper at http://www.mud-master.com/shadowkeeper/, and you'll find the answer basically without having to type or edit anything.

Here's the answer to your question. If your global variable "aerieromanceactive" is anything other than 1 or 2 (i.e., 3), that means the romance is dead, and you need to change the variables via the console or Shadowkeeper to reactivate the romance. For me, the utility was faster and more powerful.

Eldric..Thanks. I looked in ShadowKeeper, and, "Aerieromanceactive"=3, so I guess it's off. So, I should just set this value to 1, or 2? Which one, 1 or 2? And, I guess I can do this anytime, even at end of game, if I just want to make sure to get the romance active for ToB. However, there's probably some good romance toward the end of this game, since Aerie and I decided to effectively 'put things off until later' (That is until I blew it with the drow chick).

Oh yeah, so, I guess if I don't reset the romance with Aerie, that no other romances will begin either.....such as with Jahiera? They're probably all off for the game, unless I Hack a romance in with ShadowKeeper, huh?

StormBringer: If Aerie's romance is 3, that means other romance can take place, because you're no longer in a romace with Aerie. The only time when no other romance happens is when the romance active thing is 2.
Also about setting the AerieRomanceActive thing, check Aerie's Locals Affects in ShadowKeeper, if the LoveTalk is higher than 36, then set it to 2, else set it to one. Note: if you set it to 2, you cannot start another romance, as I said earlier.

Edit - There is also a multi-romance patch if you want to have the other two romances as well. I made a newer version for it, check the Happy Script post.

I think this is how it works:

You can talk your way out of sleeping with Phaere in two different ways. You can say you belong to someone else and tell her it's someone she doesn't know (she'll assume it's someone she can't challenge), or if you have enough INT and CHA, she'll believe you if you tell her that you have sworn an oath of celibacy to Lolth or you have a curse or you're a eunuch. She's not stupid, and she won't believe you unless your character is very persuasive.

I know that some guys might be thinking that sleeping with Phaere must be great, but Phaere doesn't care about you, and the next morning, she even says she was about to call in the slaves and have them beat you since you slept so late. If you're involved with Viconia, Viconia will explain a little bit of Drow sexual politics to you.

Now for the reactions from Aerie, Jaheira, and Viconia:

Aerie hates the Drow. They hunt her people for sport. She won't accept any reason in the world for letting a Drow "touch you", and she will break up with you if you sleep with Phaere. You might think that she has already broken up with you after the episode where she asked if you would sleep with her, but she still loves you, and you never know when she might change her mind about getting into a full-blown relationship with you. That's why you have to "wait and see what happens". That's pretty typical for girls who are starting their first really important relationship, and it doesn't mean she won't turn into a sex kitten later in the relationship.

Jaheira gets angry if you sleep with Phaere, but she won't break up with you if you handle things the right way. Basically, Jaheira just wants to know that you love and respect her. If you had to sleep with Phaere to protect the group, she'll accept it, as long as you don't lie to her, belittle the situation ("It served a purpose and nothing more" ), or tell her to mind her own business. She's smart enough to know that you COULD have talked your way out of it if you had tried harder, but she's practical enough to understand how dangerous the situation must have been.

Viconia has an interesting reaction. It speaks for itself. "It seems that you cannot resist the spell that drow female cast. I find it quite amusing, actually. Did she force you into the act, or did you go willingly? No matter. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to kill the wench. Were I not in hiding, I would challenge her openly and remove her head... but we cannot have everything."

This is kind of related, anyway I went to the under-dark romancing all 3 women, it was pretty early in the game, first 15K I got I took the boat. So I'm in the under-dark when Phaere ask me to sleep with her, I refused saying I was not capable when I emerged from the room, each romance option(Aerie, Jahiera and Viconia)gave me the "Glad you didn't sleep with her line" which was a first, I'm usually in the underdark much later but I wanted to get pretty far into the main plot before doing the side quests and before Aerie(the usual suspect) forces me to choose between her and Viconia, for some reason Jahiera isn't involved(I wanted all 3 fighting over me :D )
So I'm forced to split the save, now I have 2 seperate saves with 2 romance options each, one with Aerie and Jahiera and the other with Jahiera and Viconia. Eventually I get another choose sequence in the Viconia and Jahiera save and split the romance again, but I never get the choose sequence in the Aerie and Jahiera save, Aerie just takes over and Jahiera never say's anything, possible the harper plot screwed it up?

I know there is a choose sequence between Aerie and Jahiera but for some reason it never happens in this situation.

Weird huh?
