ARGH! Darned WindowsXP!

Post by Arcane »

After much grunting and gnashing of teeth, i finally get my game installed, only to have it crash on me after i click 'done' in character creation.

I've tried this with my other, older computers and they work perfectly fine.

Is there a windows xp patch i can download to get BG II fixed for XP?

Ive never heard of one for xp, but there are some things you should try before blaming it on xp. I have xp and works just fine on my system. What I would advise is first make sure you have the latest version of directx, then get the latest drivers for your videocard just to be sure.

MORE DAMN PROBLEMS!

<wheezes>

After switching its compatibility to win 98, I'm able to play ok through forabout an hour. I go to sleep, next day, I try it, and its LAGGED! I mean, badly. So I switch back it's compatibility, and its working fine.

Then the game just STOPS, and takes me to the desk top...

I got BG2 3 years ago, before XP came out, is it possible that I can't play it because its too old?

go to http://www.bioware.com/games/throne_bhaal/support/patches/
and download. That should fix it.

Just so that you know I have the same problem with BG2 in XP... my cure is maybe not the best availabel but it worked for me :D

I installed win 98 and I'm now running a tripple boot on my PC....

Win XP pro for internet and writing essays and stuff
Win 98 SE for gaming and DirectX development (in my case it's not only XP that's hitting my PC but all of DirectX so only openGL games in XP for me...)
Debian for my server and just plain phun :D

and so far it's been working great for me..... I just use Lilo to decide wich OS I want and then use that OS and if I want to switch I'll have to reboot but that's not really a problem as it onle takes half a minute.....
