BG2 rocks

I'm partial to a bit of BG 2 myself, completed it about three times (sad ain't it) theres tonnes of side missions and mini quests, there are conversations between ur characters, player-character romances, humour, loads of weapons, armour n items, great storyline and an amazin add on pack (ToB) the spells in ToEE look incredable tho and turn based fighting is cool. but BG 2 is definately tops

Reputation has no effect in TOEE on your party members. In BG2, a high reputation can annoy your "evil" NPCs, and a low rep can annoy your "good" NPCs.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Another "which is best" thread....These questions are entirely subjective and so will be my answer.

Baldurs Gate II was a great game - it had some bugs early on (which many of us have chosen to forget about) - but in general I would consider it to be the best single player D&D based RPG I have played. The storyline is great, the variety of quests and NPCs is second to none, and the combat system is both visceral in real time and strategic in pause mode. Also a very long game with great replayability.

Greyhawk TOEE - The unpatched version is a bit buggy. This will hopefully be rectified in the not to distant future. The best feature of this game is its turn based combat system which does an excellent job of interpreting 3.5 D&D rules. As a long time pen and paper player I must admit that I prefer this turn based system to the infinity engine system. I have spent a few hours just playing out one large encounter. The background graphics and overall production quality are very good. TOEE is more of a straightforward dungeon crawl - and can be breezed through more quickly. I emphasize "can be" because I tend to get into the strategy and enjoy the battles rather than run through them as many power games might.

All in all I think BGII is still the champ - but there are many things to like about TOEE - the combat system being the main star here. I like 'em both - hows that for a wishy washy opinion? :)

Ahhaaaa im taking ToEE for an answer... i mean i already am beating the game without the sidequests being completed...

Is BG2 any good? i heard some good things about it but not much details in how good it is... are the graphics, sounds, dialog, story, choice, dungeons, cities, and enemies good?
Take a halfling monk party and you'll never beat the game...

@Disturbed Slayer

Baldurs Gate II is considered by many here to be the ultimate single player CRPG. The game has a great story, it is challenging, and has great replayability. The graphics are 2D and the game is a few years old now - so don't expect NWNs or TOEE quality visuals. That being said many people consider the infinity engine (the engine BG, BGII, and Icewind Dale use) to be the best 2D system out there.

If you like great roleplaying and a great story with a good measure of killing stuff - then I would bet you will love Baldurs Gate II. Just to get an idea of its popularity - take a look at the number of posts and threads in the BGII forum here on gamebanshee. The BGII forum has 10 times the posts of any other gaming forum on this website. :)

If you looking for deep story, characters with personality, and lots of sidequests, then BG2 is your game.

If you are looking for a game with good combat system then I would say go for TOEE.

Story comes first for me so I stick with BG2.

BG 2 is much more interesting...
If ToEE would have a bigger story, more quests, more LEVEL UP's,better item description, more ARTIFACTS and simle items, no bugs...That would be one of the best games i played.
But it doesn't so that sucks.

They are both great games...

The way I see it, we should all own both! I guess it depends on what part of any given game you like (for the question of which is best...) I mean, the combat system and set up for ToEE is incredible. I love it. I also enjoy the tangible aspect of the game. It isn't super long and drawn out, etc. The bugs can be patched.. I love the spells.. BG has a wonderful story, can be replayed multiple times, etc. There is no contest for graphics, c'mon. So, I say it depends on what part of a game you like.... I like them both.

BG and BGII put life back into D&D driven RPG's. Before BG their was little left out their that had the look and feel of D&D. You had to go back to the gold boxed edition games from SSI that ran on X486 computers.

The Story of BG And BGII were written by gamers for gamers. They were devloped by people that plaied D&D for eons. So they are the best PC baised RPG's I've ever plaied. The depth and story rival a pen and paper game, and you have choises. What you do affects how the game turns out. bla bla bla.

Now that is the good side of BGII. The down side was the real time system. D&D is turn based. Makeing it fluid and real time, wile they did it well, didn't translate well to me. Trying to control 6 characters, even with the space bar was a pain in the butt, and no matter how hard you tried. One of the supid characters always did something stupid. Also the game was under the 2ned edition D&D rules. 2ned needed help. Always did, thuss 3ed.

Now the temple is a great game. I really love the graphics, and turned baised combat that is also quite fluid. 3ed D&D is a tactical game as well as an RPG. And seeing as this is one of the frist epic 1st edition D&D games, combat is what were doing alot of. Back in the days of 1st ed. We didn't talk much, just hacked and hacked and well hacked some more. Life was simple. And it was good. Just too bad that we all got sold a BETA copy and have to wait a long time for the fixes to come out. I really could use my Palidian to actually have correctly calculated to hit numbers.

So I like them both, but because of the plot. Colorfull characters and well the fact that your main character is the son of the god of murder I have to go with Baulder's Gate.

That and I already know the plot of the Temple. I've ran it a few dozen times in my life.

OK now that ive just had a conflict in the games bugs, im saying BG2, ToEE is a poor excuse of a game because of its story and how short it was... COMON D&D and WoTC!!! man you could have made it better, but i bet atari was the ones who screwed it up... cause i looked up a few games that had atari involved and they sucked, and games (with the same creaters) without atari were sweet... IM NOT THE ONE TO SAY IT WAS ATARI, but im just a little $%$#ed off at them because of how horrible this game is now... its impossible to complete almost and what fun is it? i mean... comon.... Diablo 2, NWN, morrowind, Warcraft 3... all of them, they just own ToEE, and they said all those LOVELY things about ToEE, and i just get screwed, if you think this game is awesome you might as well go buy the teletubies... comon i want to return the game and get Halo so bad, but OH THATS JUST GRAND!!!! i threw away the reciept... thanks alot D&D, Atari, WoTC, and (not exactly) troika, you just wasted another 50 bucks out of my wallet...
Take a halfling monk party and you'll never beat the game...
