Some thoughts about dual-wielding (WARNING: ToB spoilers included!)

Post by Galuf the Dwarf »

Just thought I'd put up the spoiler alert in case anyone hasn't gotten into the expansion yet. Anyways...

I was just thinking of something. Let's say I have a character with maximum proficiency in dual-wielding (2-Weapon Fighting Style, as it's called in the game). If I were to equip any of the gauntlets that enhance THAC0 and damage for melee attacks, would that also apply to the off hand.

I know that Rangers tend to have an advantage in ToB with the introduction of Montolio's Cloak, which makes damage with an off-hand weapon equal to the main hand if the wearer has max ranks in dual-wielding. If my idea with the gauntlets were to work, then the Guantlets of Extraordinary Weapon Skill (for, say, a fighter w/ max dual-wielding proficiency) would have even sweeter damage with the off hand weapon!

Don't know really, but the time I finished ToB with my Fighter/thief with full in "2-handed-fighting" with Monolito's Cloak and some real nice bracelets...well, lets just say that he was undefeated...=) And with the "Pantaloon Armor" his armorcalss was -25...
If there's something more important than my ego. I want it caught and shot now.

Guantlets improve base thac0 so should help both hands, but haven't tested it.

gauntlets (of weapon specialisation and extraordinary specialisation, i presume) improve THAC0 and damage for both hands. montolio's cloack improves off-hand THAC0 only, as well as AC and saving throws.

And that was what I was hoping to know.

I'm trying to remember off-hand (no pun intended). Can all classes equip the gauntlets (namely the Gauntlets of Extraordinary Specialisation)? If so, then they would be good investments for Swashbucklers and Blades.
