Is time of consequence?

Post by janhans »

Often when you get a quest, you will be told to hurry and get there.
My question: is time of any consequence. I have a dozen of quest waiting to be solved, I cant do them all at ones. How long can I postpone a quest? Timelimits? Timed quests? etc....

also:
What is the normal time to finish BG2. I am on day 65 and I' m at chap.4

also:
Any comments on my group? Who should be dropped/added? Who would fit?
Havoc (my char. Human fighter lvl 12)

time is of no essence at all..... in BG1 there was a quest that you had to solve or you would die (i think you had ten days to do it), but in BG2 there's none that I can think of at all.....

the day count can be a bit misleading..... the fastest in real time that I finished BG2 I think was 3 days (in real life time), but then it took about 150 days in game time as I kept sleeping all the time to get my spells back (my main char was an illusionist gnome :D ), but if you say play solo with a fighter you can get a really low day count (I think 55 days is my record), but then i tried to get a low count just to see how low I could get it.... also note that if you are in a party that does not have a cleric/ druid/healing spells in all, then you can sleep for about three weeks in a row if you have the rest until healed option checked....

Time..

For most of them, no.

There are a few (mostly in MODs) which do - the way to tell is if the NPC gives you a SPECIFIC time frame (x hours, one day, what have you) - if not, take as long as you need.

Your party is fine, play what you like - if you are looking to change, I would consider adding a thief or other rogue in place of one of your heavies - one with an a good knowledge of turnips, perhaps ;)
I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.

Some of the quests are timed. With the fighter stronghold (Nalia's castle), if you do attend to its needs soon enough after the messenger summons you, you lose the keep. I think the same thing goes for the ranger stronghold. Also, the drow princess whom you run errands for in Ust Natha puts time limits on everything you do. If you are overdue, she teleports to your location, deduces your true identity and attacks you.

Most of the quests and the whole game, however, are untimed, so you can go it as leisurely as you like; the few timed quests should be fairly obvious.

If the quest comes from a potential party NPC, then yes, it's likely to be timed. If it comes from anyone else, then no.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
