Identify
Identify
Hi, I`m just outside the Nashkel Mines. I have a level 3 bard who has memorised the identify spell. I`ve just killed someone called Grey Wolf. I have his sword, which I need to identify. When I click on identify, all the options are shaded out.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
davfra

If his a bard, is he wearing armour (and therefore not able to spell cast)?

Don't wanna go of topic, but the sword of Chaos is nice under certain circumstances in ToB.

The most powerful NPCs and monsters are not constructed the same way as your own characters. They don't wield weapons the way your characters do; they don't carry droppable weapons that your own characters could use. For example, even though Drizzt is supposed to be wielding two scimitars, one of them is in his inventory rather than his hand, and the other one is on his head. (He must be wielding it with his teeth).Originally posted by Idioteque
Anyone know the stats of his sword and any other equipment he might have in BG1?
When you fight Sarevok, he isn't actually wearing any armor. He has a "natural" Armor Class (without armor) of AC -1. I think a +4 DEX bonus is subtracted from that because he has DEX 18, giving him AC -5. He does wear a helmet, presumably to protect against critical hits. His stats are 18/00, 18, 17, 14, 12, 13 (the last 3 are essentially meaningless). He has 285 hit points. I don't think he gets extra hit points for having CON 17; he's not an ordinary class such as Fighter--he's considered a 15th Level "Sarevok".
As for his "weapons", he's carrying a +5 two handed sword, but he also attacks you with a built-in weapon (called "Sarevok") that acts like a +5 two handed sword (+5 to hit, 1d10+5 damage). I think that's the reason why he has a base value of two attacks per round. He's also wearing a ring that makes him Hasted, so I guess that means he gets 4 attacks per round. I think a STR bonus is added to his attacks (+3 to hit and +6 damage for 18/00 STR). His base THAC0 is 2, so if you add his +3 STR bonus and his +5 weapon bonus, I guess he can hit AC -8 on a roll of 2 or higher. He has 90% resistance to fire, cold, electricity, and acid and 50% resistance to missile damage.
The Sword of Chaos +2 is purely an invention for BG2: Shadows of Amn; it doesn't exist in BG1. As far as I know, Sarevok does not have the ability to cast Larloch's Minor Drain; that's just something the Sword of Chaos +2 was given to make it a more interesting weapon. If you want to pretend that Sarevok wields a sword in BG1 that gives him some of his special powers, I don't see a problem with that (it makes sense, and it's interesting to think about what a weapon like that should look like), but that's not actually how Sarevok is "made", so anything we might say about it is purely speculation.
Ha ha..
Cheating is such a harsh word
Think of it as balance.
You have the advantage of being clever & adaptable. They have the advantage of hitting like a Mack Truck and having insane stats, hit points, resistances, etc.
Oh, who am I kidding - they cheat like hell

I have given up all lesser evils as inadequate to my purpose.
No... they give us challenges. Sarevok is supposed to be the toughest monster in the game, after all.Originally posted by Xyx
In other words... they cheat like hell.
Would you prefer that he be, oh, say, an 18th Level Deathbringer with a badass suit of armor and +4 two handed sword that casts Larloch's Minor Drain?

I would prefer him to be powerful in an honest way. If it takes a badass 18th level Deathbringer to match the power the current cheesed up travesty holds, then I'd prefer the badass 18th level Deathbringer.
And why not? It wouldn't make the game harder, just more honest.
