FO2: Childkiller woes (spoilers)

Post by UncleScratchy »

Possible spoilers:

Well I accidently killed a kid in the Den and got hit with the childkiller stigma. Normally I would reload but I decided to play anyway. A couple of things I noticed with this stigma. First, Becky won't deal with you anymore. Second, the sheriff in the NCR won't deal with you. Also I couldn't get any of the quests for the mob gang in New Reno that run the bootlegging operation so I couldn't get the location of Sierra military base. And most drastic is being occassionally jumped by big unbeatable bounty hunter partys equipped with the best armor and weapons in the game. I'm assuming that these are all related to the childkiller stigma. Can anyone confirm my observations? Anyone know of any other things affected by being a childkiller? (Joining the slavers or being a grave robber aren't very good ideas either). I finally abandoned the game and started over.

Funny, no one seemed to notice that I was a grave robber.....

Have you ever REALLY tried to be an evil char in FO2?
Anything you do really lowers your moralle, raises prices... it is really hard.
I cant confirm bout that childkiller business, but ive climbed levels till lvl 30 and played evil... Man, that is a game!
Bouty hunters, good people and bad people trying to hunt you down...
Gee weez...

Child-Killer is a must have for an evil game. Those bounty hunters that come after you are a wealth of exp. and equipment. ;)

Yeah, being evil does make things harder, but personally I find playing an evil character easier than playing a stupid one.
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

i was playing the UK version without the patches, so the children were still there, but just not the sprites.. i killed karl (think thats his name) in the den, he offered me a bunch of cash / plasma cells, i said "no thanks, its ok" i expected him to be like most of the other NPCs "thats so generous of you, here have a y2k pulse rifles instead + all the goodies".. anyways, i threw some dynamite around, blew the den sky high... found out that the children were still there, but only the sprites got removed.

Needless to say i got the childkiller perk, a bunch of people wouldnt talk to me (despite having a high enough rep at the time to train with the good kung fu dude in san fran) and later got a bunch of bounty hunters after me in between new reno and NCR somewhere.. so could be the perk or some bug.

As for playing evil, well things are a lot less complicated, and once you get the navarro armor and a decent aimable rifle... well... they are all just free ammo and stimpacks =).

Plus there's something satisfying about wiping out all of broken hills with little jesus knife and the slugger... kneecapping marcus brings a smile to my face every time.

Meh. I liked the y2k pulse rifle better. Nothing beats being able to kill all those San Fran chinamen with one shot to they eye, even though they have 198 hp :)

child killer

i have played the uk version several times to completion. however it does not include the chilren in the den so could not get that trait. shame i do like to do the obligatry evil game. sometimes do that first, then go back and do the good guy game.

Speaking of the pulse rifle... I was wondering what you guys think the games best weapons are. I know technically the pulse rife has the most damage, but it always seems to have terrible accuracy for me, even with Eweapons skill at 125 (I also hate sifting through my victim's ashes for his items, it's just time consuming). The gauss rifle does almost as much damage, has a longer range and huge armor piercing. The H&K G11E also has great armor piercing, range and 7 round burst fire, it's lacking in damage though. Now the Bozar, I think this is the most powerfull weapon in the game. It has 15 round burst fire with the powerful armor piercing .223 rounds. So Imo it's the Gauss at range and the bozar up close.

(as long as you're gonna build you big guns skill you might consider using the rocket launcher for range.)

Aren't there other kids to kill though? There's that anoying one in Klamath that follows you. and a bunch in the ghost farm, and that one in vault city that lost his nixon doll. Probably more.

Wow, I'm always suprised by just how buggy this game can be. Still one of my favorite RPGs though.

Try getting a copy of the US version, if you don't mind them spelling colour wrong.

In my experience, the Bozar doesn't cause juicy crits as much as the Pulse rifle. I did 200+ damage every shot with the Y2K, but only 50+ with the Bozar.

Depends a lot on the personal traits, and stuff. Not only weapon power itself.

I always tend to be a puncher, myself. It is very efficient, and the slayer trait is the ultimate kicker.
