Slightly confused....
Okay, let me see if I got this straight...you start out in a certain character class (soldier, scout, scoundrel) and as you advance in levels you gain the corresponding skills and feats (soldier gets lots of feats & low skill, etc).
Then, when you become a jedi, the skill and feat advancement rate of your character class gets replaced by the skill and feat advancement of the jedi class you choose? Or do they stack?
So if I'm a Level 8 Soldier before Dantooine with lots of feats, I don't start out as a Level 1 Jedi, then eventually Soldier 9/Jedi 2, etc?
So is it better to hold back level advancement until you become a Jedi, or better to milk Taris for as much XP as possible?
class vs jedi advancement...

The Jedi class modifies the basic profession advancements. So that if you had a profession with high skills, but then chose a Jedi class with low ones, the Jedi would take over.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
I don't really like to reach level 8 as a soldier, scout, or scoundrel. I like to hit level 5 or 6 with a soldier to pick up those early feats. I hoard all the XP I can find after that until I become a Jedi so I can choose more powers than I would have been able to if I would have leveled out before leaving Taris. But from the posts I've read, and responses to my own, I've figured out it's really just a matter of preference. If you're interested in a formula for a character, you can check the character forum for a custom job. The guy that submitted the "Sith Witch" actually never leveled up after leaving the Endire Spire which made him a level 2 class and level 18 jedi. I tried that one out and it was actually quite fun. If nothing else I learned to play with some of the other characters at the first instead of neglecting a few of them (kept having to switch back and for one with high security, or one that could make repairs, etc.).
I agree about the leveling up. Try not to pass lvl 8 for one, as a jedi you get certen feats that are given to you. I belive force focus is the last one you get at lvl 12 jedi, this gives you a +4 to save throughs...so if you swich at lvl 8 you wont get this untill 20th.
Dont worrie about losing lvls or exp when you neglect to lvl up your first class. If you swich to a Jedi and you have only lvl'd up once, all your remaining exp will go towards your Jedi Class

.......is it crazy in here or is it just me??
Thanks for the clarification. I like the consular character (hence the name, Solar Con!). I re-started my game, and am back to the ruins on Dantooine, where I previously had been before I realized I could save leveling up. This time around, I started as a soldier, but customized his attributes like a consular. This way, I started out with a stronger VP base, and gained some feats quicker (plus gave me proficiency in all weapons and armor, which helped getting through Taris without leveling up much), stopping at level 4 soldier until I became a consular. The one area my character is weak in is stealth, but so far, I've not needed it much.
This fits my style. Currently, I like to wear armor, implants (that sounds wierd!), and use ranged weapons; if you happen to get close enough, I'll pull out the saber. Guess that makes a buff, cybernetic, wise-arse jedi?

the best thing to do, if you have the patience for it and wish to become an UNGODLY Jedi/Sith is to do the following:
ok, everyone has to level up to atleast level 2, but after that, dont level up again until u become a jedi, then u'll level up around 7 times at once. i've played the whole game through countless of times, and i've leveled up all kinds of ways. if you are very fond of force powers, this is definetly the way to go. the only drawback is that your fighting abilities will not be that great, making things such as the dueling ring, much more difficult, as well as increasing ur dependency on medpacs and healing.
