getting out from illithid city

I am in the illithid city, I have managed to turn a mind flyaer to my side, he openend some doors to me, but he simply wouldn't open the exit door and I'm stuck. Did I forgot to do something? Do I have to completely clear the area before they allow me to get out from there?

Thanks for any help on this one.

I believe that is correct. You will have to go through the entire area before you can leave.

Yes, you have to defeat the elder brain and take its blood before you can leave the city.
