The new best weapons for BG2: ToB

Post by Zartuul »

These are IMO

Axe of the Unyielding - This weapon goes from being a subpar weapon (worse then stonefire even) to an amazing weapon when upgraded.

Ravager +6 - Probably the best two handed weapon out there. 3-18 poison damage each hit unless saving throw is made and 10% chance of decapitation with no saving throw is awesome.

Black Razor - Despite only being +3 if the sword can hit anything in ToB its still the best weapon around. No other weapon has anything close to its effect.

Crom Faeyr - Still among the best and by no means obselete.

Flail of Ages - HUGE upgrade once you get the final head. One of the best weapons around easily.

I'm disappointed in Katanas. Celestial Fury was an awesome sword in BG2 but is now surpassed by the new ToB weaponry. The ToB Katana is worse then Celestial Fury IMO.

you forgot a few...

foebane, a bastard sword that does not suck.

rune hammer, kinda like the mace o' dis. +2

whatever that burning club is called it's pretty cool, er hot...

have not upgraded, the mask sword or the flaming sword, but they seem like the'll be good.

the onehanded holy-avenger "purifier"

yammoto, scimitar +4, pretty good too.

"anwserer" could be real good in some situations.

storm star is the real deal.

The Answerer appears to me as one of the best weapons in the game (the only question is how long the effects last): just prepare the opponent for some very hard hits from other weapons...I like it!!

These are my favorites:
The Answerer
Flail of Ages
Crom Faeyr
Foebane
Staff of the Ram
Angurvadal(sp?)
Impaler
Ixl's Spike
Staff of the Magi
Axe of the Unyielding

Does anything in ToB actually fail that save?

Yes monsters in ToB that aren't the pushovers CAN fail their saving throws hehe. Imagine my surprise when Sarevok walked up and one hitted a Green Dragon with the Silver Sword.

Monsters especially fail if you hit them with Greater Malison - this is a great spell, along with Lower Resistance to "soften" up opponents.

Well...

Storm Star +5
Agurvandal +5 (lots of dmg)
Spectral Brand +5 (badass scimitar)
Ravager +6 (Im not a big fan of halbreds but)
Carsoymr +6 (Best Two Handed)
Crom Fayer (It is surapassed in dmg by most weapons but the str bonus still remains)
Flail of Ages +5 (Perhaps the best weapon in the game)
Axe of Unyielding +5 (Good Axe)

I think that both the answerer and agurvandal +5 is better than blackrazor so, I think blackrazor is obsolete.

Can someone send me the item file for The Answerer? It's sw1h77.itm, according to the equipment page of GameBanshee. I might be able to help answer about how long the effects last. Haven't got ToB yet, so can't check it myself. Thanks in advance.

Sabre, could you forward the file to me? My fingers are itching to try that blade out. :)

Thanks, Geert

MegaToerist: I'll send it to you as soon as I get it, either from someone here or when I get the game, which ever one comes first.

Ok, thanks.

How long do you still have to wait in Australia? In Europe, we're in for at least two weeks

Ok, thanks to KaaZe, I've got the sword - The Answerer +4. The abilities last for 24 seconds, which is equal to 4 rounds in the game.

MegaToerist: I've just sent it to you, not sure when ToB is going to be out, but I remember someone said it will be this week.

Got it Sabre, thanks.

With the Answerer's abilities lasting 4 rounds, this might be a very decent sword. Give it to to a charater with 3 attacks each round, now, if you only get 33% of your strikes to hit, it's an 8-point AC penalty, and the magic resistance gets lowered by 60%. I love it!!

TC, Geert
