Summons are for wimps. No, really. Why get conjured creatures to do your dirty work for you?
I just fought and beat Saladrex with the power of my party.
Denethor L27 Inquisitor
Minsc L26 Ranger
Sir Anomen L28 Cleric L7 Fighter
Jaheira L16 Fighter L14 Druid
Imoen L21 Mage L7 Thief
Nalia L21 Mage L4 Thief
Both Immy and Nalia had Spell Triggers queued up with Pierce Magic and 2x Lower Resistance. Sir Anomen opened up with a judicious casting of Magic Resistance on the Arrogant One, which actually turned him hostile (forgot I had Baldurdash Fixpack installed). Immy and Nalia cast their Triggers and Saladrex's MR was virtually gone. Immy and Nalia then followed up with a Minor Sequencer and a Spell Sequencer each for a total of 10 Magic Missile spells in quick succession. Saladrex was feeling a bit ill by this stage. Denethor stepped in with a quick casting of Dispel Magic (cast at 54th level ability!), and then Saladrex stood before my warriors as naked as a newborn babe.
Dragon steaks anyone?

Is this the Black Dragon?
Anyway, don't call summoning creatures "wimps". Many gamers think casting Magic Resistance on Dragons is cowardly and throwing Cloudkill is cheating. They are all legitimately available in the game, and it's up to players how to kill dragons.

Saladrex is the Red Dragon in Watcher's Keep.
If memory serves right, he's a lot smarter than the dragons in SoA even without any fixes installed, thats why he went hostile when you casted Magic Resistance on him. He attacks you if you place traps near him, too.

There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.
Oh, that's the one.
I think ToB changed the script of enemies in general (or maybe Baldurash patch... ) Dragons no longer stand still in the middle of triple Cloudkill, which was the case before.

Many apologies. I have erred. I didn't mean to offend anyone with the "Summons are for wimps" comment. I was merely offering my perspective on how to take on the "big boys and girls".
Genuinely speaking - it's up to everyone to come up with their own strategies. Still, I don't think the cleric spell Magic Resistance counts as "cheese" if it actually provokes a hostile response.
I'm in complete agreement with you over the Cloudkill strategy though. That's an utter no-no in my book.
