Killing Trolls

Post by tsugaman »

I can't seem to get trolls to die...all I can do is disable them or render them unconsious. When I hit them it shows me the hit points that it took but it also says "Nonlethal" and the troll shows up as being unscathed.

Since when do trolls become immortals? Is this a bug or perhaps my charchters should all be trolls then.

Anyone else notice this?

When they are disabled, you have to Coup De Tate, or they will regenerate.

Its not a bug, but I dont see why the damage is non-lethal, it is lethal, they just get better.

Lethal is defined as "deadly" except for Trolls

"Coup de Grace", actually. It's French, and is pronounced Koo-di-GrAH, more or less.

No. Lethal is defined as "deadly" except for Trolls. Trolls, in actual AD&D rules, can only be disposed of with fire. This game has no option to carry torches, which could be used to ignite the unconscious monsters.

The Coupe de Grace is useful in many situations and is unique to ToEE so far as I'm aware. If you have a sleeping monster, it allows you to kill it with one stroke, while a normal attack must follow dice-rolling rules and isn't likely to be lethal (to non-Troll opponents) -- this makes the mage spell "Sleep" much more valuable.

Use your fireballs, melf's acid arrows, acid splash, etc. to give them lethal damage.

Non lethal damage works in your favor

On dungeon level 2, i was able to INTIMIDATE the King of Trolls to join my team, its awesome that any damage he suffers is non-lethal. I never have to waste heal spells on him ever. So if you have the chance to get the Troll King on your team as a NPC, i'd highly recommend it. ( he has 103 hp and has 3 attacks/round and sounds cool when he fights). :)
