Poll on weapons

Post by Zartuul »

Ok putting difficulty of getting items and when you can get them aside what is the best weapon(s) that a tank can wield in the game?

Thinking of making a solo melee type and am wondering what weapons I should go for. I know that Mace skills is pretty much mandatory for the Mace of Disruption but there are other better general purpose weapons.

Hmmm so make a paladin and go for Carsomyr for the resistance and raw damage? Daystar/Equalizer? Blackrazor/Celestial Fury? Use FoA for the slow effect in there someplace? Or Crom Faeyr for the 25 strength?

So many different weapons just wondering whats best. Was thinking of using Black Razor/Celestial Fury maybe. Yes I know that can't be done unless you use Shadow Keeper but I'd like to use one of the possibly best swords in the game while I'm playing through it since you can't normally use it.

Forgot to include some of the really good two handed weapons out there like Wave, Dragon's Breath, and Silver Sword. I've found two handed weapons to be really powerful when you put two points into two hand weapon usage.

IMHO, Keldorn+Carsomyr+ Chaotic Commands cast on him is just great. Carsomyr is my favorite weapon and you can find it early in the game

If you want a two handed sword make a paladin and take Carsomyr (+5 thac0 and 50% magic res. is awsome).

Otherwise I'd dualwield Crom Fayer (few things surpass 25 strength) and Blackrazor.
I also always keep Daystar ready in case I meet any undead.

Best weapons (IMO):

2-handed Swords: Lilarcor early in the game, then Carsomyr +5 for paladins and Warblade +4 for other fighters (Soul Reaver +4 for non-good alignments)

Staves: Staff of Rhynn +4, Staff of the Magi for fighter/mages, Staff of the Woodlands for fighter/druids

Flail: Flail of Ages

Mace: Upgraded Mace of Disruption, Skullcrusher +3

Hammer: Crom Faeyr

Axe: Frostreaver

Katanna: Celestial Fury

Long Sword: Adjatha the Drinker early in the game, then Equalizer and Blackrazor

Short Sword: Kundane +2 and Cutthroat +4 - great in a dual-wield combination

Spear: Impaler - that extra +10 piercing damage = mega-ouch!
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

1.Carsomyr +5 (duh)
2.Crom Faeyr +5 (double duh)
3.Daystar (bye bye vampires)
4.Flail of Ages
5.Staff of the Magi
6.Tansheron's Bow

Equalizer is a load of BS, and I've never used Blackrazor or Celestial Fury.

Everyone keeps forgetting the importance of the Belm +2. If you put it into your left hand, you get an extra attack with whatever you have in your right hand. A dual-wielding weapon-specializing Belm-carrying level 13+ fighter class or combo will have 4.5 attacks/round, which is BTW the same as the highest-level monk.

Let me also add that between a two-handed weapon which does a few points more base damage and two single-handed weapons which do a few points less base damage, dual-wielding the Belm +2 and for example the Celestial Fury, Crom Faehr, or Blackrazor does much more damage. 2.5 times damage for two-handed is almost always going to be less than 4.5 times damage for 1-handed.

I calculated out once that the Carsomyr does less damage per round than someone with even the discounted Blade of Roses and the Belm +2.

FLail of Ages in the main hand and Crom Faeyr in the off hand is the best combo of weapons i think. Especially if you have the 3 stars in dual weilding. Once i got that combo, the rest of the game was all too easy.

IF you have a Kensai/mage

try 3 stars in dual weilding
and 5 stars in katannas

killer combo

Celestial Fury and Daekon Zerth Blade

another thing, you get Black Razor far to late in the game for it to be useful. I admit that its stats are awesome, but it serves no purpose. Im holding onto it for Throne of Bhaal though.....

The Silver Sword is an awesome 2 handed sword for minsc, put hat on him and he critical hits for 30+ almost all the time. Its even better on him than lilarcor.

I had Minsc dual wielding Celestial Fury and +2 Katana because I didn't have anyone else around to use CF besides him (didn't get valygar). My main was a Paladin so it was up to Minsc to use the CF.

I'm curious whats better between dual wielding or two handed weapons.

I agree that belm is awesome. Nothing does more damage than Crom Faeyr and belm. I had a swashbuckler dual wielding belm and kundane. That gave her 4 attacks per round at a decent thac0. She was very efficient provided the monsters could get hit by +2 weapons. I only wish characters other than monks could use scarlet ninja-to.
I also tried a kensai/mage dualwielding belm and kundane. After casting improved haste I had 10 attacks per round. There was not much that could withstand that kind of damage.

I actually haven't used Carsomyr yet nor the better short swords... My favorite combos are two tanks dualing Celestial/TheDrinker+2 (I forget how to spell it, but it prevents Minsc from getting charmed, at least), and FlailAges/Crom (in main hand, for better thac0). I've never used Blackrazor either :p but I agree, it comes to late to be of any real use anyway.

-Oh, and give both those tanks the boots of speed. mmmm mmmm
:D

I cant see how anyone can think carsomyr is better than crom faeyr. Better to dualwield than using 2handed, and besides, only weak Paladins can use that sword.

Pre-patch this was a great weapon and better than the monks fists some of the time. After the patch it is the most annoying weapon in the game for me...

Let's make a 3 poisoned weapon that gives an extra attack then restrict it to character who make a grand total of 2 attacks with it...or instead can make 5 attacks with a +3 d20 fist.

Great weapon, too bad noone can use it effectively.

Okay, imagine this, belm and crom faeyer.

A fighter

6 attacks a round, so that gives you a minimum of 84 damage on stregth bonuses.

Someoen do the math, but I'm sure that if you trained with those weapons you could do 100 damage easily as long as all of your attacks hit.
