Need Motivation to cook

Post by CM »

Now i often eat out 4 or 5 times a week at night, which i shouldnt do as i have stuff in the fridge and the food i eat at points is pretty pathetic (yes i eat Mcdonalds). anyway i need motivation to cook food at home for me.

2 things need to be taken into consideration first. I hate eating alone. I rather walk around geneva's lake side at night with something expensive to eat than sit at home and eat all by myself.

Second i suck at cooking. So i honestly dont try. It would be nice to get some motivation other than saving money to cook at home and do a good job at it as well. Some nice and easy recipes would be nice as well.

So SYM gurus you guys got any advice?

Eating fast food constantly blows, is expensive and probably bad for you too. :D

Try and learn to cook some basic things at first and then move on. Oh I hear that most girls admire a guy who can cook, if that doesn't motivate you then I don't know what will... :p

Women admire a man who can cook? When you have a woman you dont need to cook so who gives a damn then? :p

Btw till i find a girl, what do i do to motivate myself? I dont care about the future. I care about stomach at the present :p

Hehehe - must say I've impressed more then one by cooking for them ;) It is good to be able to cook.

Also if you don't enjoy eating alone (I actually like it- gives me chances to reflect, same as when I cook) try cooking something you can take out. Makeing various (pasta) salats and go "out" eating, make various sandwichs, fry some chicken and cut it into nice chuncks and take it out. Burgers can be made at home also and taste much better then MacD or Burger King and what not. :)

The possiblities are endless and imagination is the only boundery ... and of course ones own personal taste.

And if that isn't motivation enough ... think of the money. :D Start calculating what you use on purchasing finished food and compare it to what cost you could make it for yourself.

Money is the main issue i wish to eat at home. If i buy stuff at the local market, its maximum 50 sfr a week. If i eat out every night and just dinner it easily comes out to 70 sfrs. 10 a night but normally meals cost between 15 and 20 francs. Not including the drink. So i save a lot of money, but hell i cant be motivated.

But impressing women....hmmm....i am thinking about now and may practice tonight :D I enjoy cooking once i am motivated.

You try to help a guy and this is sort of trash you get in return :p :D ;)

Go out and buy yourself a cooking book or record a cooking show.

I can't cook either. I always eat out at restaurants or I eat some kind of fastfood - usually not junk food though, rather take away sushi or something similar. I can't give you any advice on how to cook or how to save money, but I can assure you something - all women love a man who can cook. especially if he is good in bed, too

Don't try to cook something too complicated. You know, go to bookshop and buy a huge book of "Perfect Dinner for Two" or something, buy dozen spices you've never heard of as well as a set of professional kitchen knives, then try to cook three course meal, for example. That will almost certainly put you off from cooking for good! :D

Try something simple, like pasta (easy, healthy, filling, and looks impressive), salad, or sandwiches, as Xandax suggested. Or, why not invite your friends to cook with you? Ask recipe by saying "I'm trying to learn cooking. Do you know something simple and tasty?", then ask how to peal potatoes or how long you need to boil rice or something. So that you can learn something new easier, and don't have to eat alone either. ;) Oh, and girls like someone who tries to cook ("who cooks" is the best, but "trys to cook" is good enough), rather than someone who assumes women should cook for him. :D

I dont assume. I demand :D Well i try to cook pakistani dishes and they get as complicated as possible, but i have got 2 or 3 dishes down, so i can cook them with my eyes closed. But i guess i should start off slow. Oh well sandwiches and pasta here i come. I guess i could start off with figuring out how to make some sauces and stuff. Or taking existing ones and mixing in extra herbs and spices to make it more appealing to my taste buds.

Tammy you deserve whatever you get :p

CE yeah well i cant be bothered to cook then :p If i have a woman she does the cooking. Not me :D

I think you are delusional :D Seeing your attitude towards women, I figure you haven't got much training...so learning to cook will be your luck :D :p

Whatever you meant most likely refered to something which would be very bad for me. This i did not try to understand it :p Pay her? Who said i would pay her? :D

Plus what were you refering to?

Well, the greatest motivation is to take a grasp on sexy cooking. There is this practice I find extremely effective in making sure a prominent member of the opposite sex won't be able to resist my charms.

It's called "cook her dinner, invite her to bed".

Actually, I ain't using this system anymore, being a married man and all, but cooking for ms Ubik helps me to avoid other, less pleasant houseworks.

So, now my method is called "cook your way out of misery", or something like that.

Let her handle the annoying stuff (sweeping, laundring, doing dishes etc. etc.) while you cook a magnificent dinner/meal/breakfast/snack for her :D

Do you get Ready Steady Cook over there? :D :o Seriously, it's a great programme for picking up tips.

There's loads of stuff you can cook that is easy but not too much effort - pasta, rice, noodles, etc. If making your own sauce from scratch is too much effort (although it's really not that hard - most of the stuff I cook is all-in-one-pan type stuff), buy ready-made sauces - they still work out cheaper than eating out. So get pasta sauce (one jar could do for two meals), curry paste (chop meat, mix it up with some curry paste, fry it, and stir in a tin of chopped tomatoes) is good and a jar goes a long way, stir-fry sauces (which couldn't be easier - chop up your veg/meat, fry it, mix sauce in - ta da!). ;)

Oh, and I concur with CE's comments about guys who can cook. :D

I pretty much adhere to Ubik's mentality when it comes to cooking. (Egad!) At first, I thought my cooking abilities a curse - it seemed I was actually expected to cook! But then, I saw how I got out of cleaning the bathrooms, etc., and all was right with the world again! Now I have honed my skills to the point that I am always up to my elbows in cooking just at the same time that the diapers need changing! I love cooking. :D
