Fire wine bridge being mean *spoiler*

Post by napoleon_n_rags »

The first time that i played bg1 i kind of let it of let it go when Diablo2 came out (ashamed) however after beating bg2 a couple of times i decided i should atleast beat bg1, so i have a party of me, pure mage, xan, jaheria, imoen, khalid, and yeslick, im in baldurs gate but ive tried beating the firewine brdige and every time i enter the first big room i face about 20 kobold commando archers, i don't rember this the first time i played and i'd like to beat it without lowering the difficulty.

Fireball to initially clear that part out, then keep someone parked there to shoot the rest of the kobolds as they come through.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Try a Wand of Fire. Wands can be overused (and it spoils the fun), but sometimes it is very appropriate to use them.

You can also summon a few monsters to attract the arrows first and then send your mage in with the wanted spells. Skull Trap, fireball, maybe even lightning bolt work nicely. You can also use a cleric and cast a ward.

Or as suggested, equip your front man with all the AC vs missiles you have and use some protection spells. He (or she) should be very hard to hit.

I usually skip this when I am playing a full party as it is just too difficult to navigate the corridors. However, it is possible to complete the quest without fighting all the way through the dungeon: (SPOILER Highlight to read) Go to the halfling house that is furthest to the east and go in through the basement. (End Spoiler).

Of course, doing it that way means you miss out on another mini-quest that occurs somewhere in the middle of the maze. One method I tried was to have a single party member go through invisibly, while the rest stayed behind. But that can get tricky since the Kobolds will often block the passage even if they don't attack.

I you really must go through with a full party, the suggestions above should be helpful. Just remember not to retrace your steps as the Kobolds will respawn. And be prepared to dispense lots of healing.l

The Firewine bridge maze is a major pain. It's definitely my least favorite quest. I tried it in my first game and I actually gave up after a while. The narrow corridors and the lousy pathfinding tend to send your party all over the place while you're busy fighting the kobolds (who spawn like sex-addicted rabbits) and others. And those kobolds only give you 7 xp a piece!
The second time I sent my strongest fighter and my thief ahead to take care of business. So no pathfinding problem there.
The rest of the party stayed behind to finish of all those kobolds. Whenever my fighter and thief ran into more trouble than they could handle I sent some partymembers over to help them out.

That sounds like the best strategy for this dungeon. My problem is that I get into the habit of hitting the Select All button and wind up accidentally sening my "idle" party-members into unknown dangers.

I wish there were a room you could lock them in to keep them out of trouble. Come to think of it, most of the mazes in BG1 lack rooms with closeable doors...
