Bodak endlessly killing me in Chapter 2
Bodak endlessly killing me in Chapter 2
In chapter 2, going through the castle in charwood village, I get attacked by a Bodak outside of Quint's chambers. It keeps killing me by casting death or using death gaze. Over and over. Any tips on beating this thing? I've tried swapping amulets and belts and such around to improve saving throws and magic resitance, taken scads of potions before going into battle, etc. No dice. I'm a level 10 Elven Ranger btw.
well, I think one way to get around him is to just walk around him..... just don't enter the room he is in and walk on th eoutside and then break open a door to quint's room...... I never tried this as I never had any problems to kill him but it might work....Originally posted by Johnny Is

Re: Re: Bodak endlessly killing me in Chapter 2
The first time I approached Quint's room I hadn't gone through all the rooms on the level, came at it from the side and had Tomi pick the lock on the door, but as I was speaking with Quint my henchmen came under attack and then the Bodak rushed in, apparently he had opened the adjoining door somehow, as he didn't come from the side of the room I had entered through, he cast death and immediately wiped my entire party out.
So, I decided to go through the whole level and wipe everything out before speaking with Quint this time to avoid surprise attacks. Guess I'll just keep hacking away at it, maybe try different henchmen out and see if one of them can knock the thing out before he casts, or protect us somehow.
Thanks for the tip though.

Bodak Update
Well, just kept trying different things and finally found that Grimgnaw or whatever his name is seems resistant to the Bodak's death gaze, so, I just had to stay out of the way of it and shoot arrows into his back while Grimgnaw beat on him. At least the Bodak was worth a handful of XP.

Knockdown. Keep that shadow on his tookas and he won't be doing that anymore. Just make sure that your henchmen is drawing fire from one side (you don't take xp hits for 'sacrificing' your hired help) and you put the bodak to its knees from the other (in case you happen to miss. Oops, sorry Tomi).
Alternately, I think spells like Death Ward for you priestly types, Antimagic shell (if its available?), or anything that improves your saving throw (amulets, rings, spells, etc). Definitely a fight where half a dozen +AC items won't help. Shame on you for selling off that Ring of Resistance and Scarab of Protection.
Also, I believe that the bodak can be turned..

I did not have a problem with the Death Gaze of the Bodark, though my PC is a F/T/M so may have higher saves vs Death. If you persist in having a problem I would consider purchase of a Belt of Guiding Light. I think these are available in temples in Ch2. Daeron (sp?) was also a good NPC for bodak bashing.

That Bodak sucked. Save right before you fight it, and if you die, reload. I was playing a level... Eleven Cleric and I had a nice bit of resistance to death, and the Bodak can not be turned, at least not at that level. Grimgnaw does have a strength versus death, and I think the necklace he gives you has immunity to death spells. Equip it. Not like it'll save you much as the Bodak hits for like 20 a hit. Keep trying. You can do it. If you can dominate undead or whatever it is, it works, but DO NOT SAVE WITH THE BODAK IN YOUR PARTY. Big time glitch. You'll never be rid of him until he dies in combat.

I had no trouble with this Bodak although he is tough to bring down. I just cast spells on him and when things got rough paused, recalled, rested to get spells back, cast defensive spells, returned again repeating this until he was dead -
pause, recall to temple, heal and rest is the ticket to success in any difficult battle.
