What is the point of reputation?

What is the point of reputation?

ive always been high reputation back when i beat the game the first time, but i never had evil chars then, now i need that bad reputation but what are the penalties for dropping it? what are the exact effects of reputation?

You can receive a hostile reaction
Items are more expensive

Neutral characters will leave if your reputation will be beneath 3.

You can maintain a reputation of 18 however and each evil character will stay in your party. Just make sure you don't go to 19 or 20.

i have finished i game with korgan and edwin in party with 20 reputation,every time they get out i just realoaded.but i have finished in less than 20 days(at the game)if u like to sleep a lot its not safe.....
